She presses the door closed.
My phone buzzes.
Jules: You think I'm insane, don't you?
Griffin: You have a unique charm.
Jules: You do too.
Griffin: Don't tell me you don't like it anymore.
Jules: I do. I just. I know how you feel about honesty.
Griffin: How is that?
Jules: You have a violent hatred of anything less than the complete truth.
Griffin: What are you saying, Jules?
Jules: I'm trying to tell you something.
Griffin: You can tell me anything.
Jules: Promise you won't be mad.
My chest gets heavy.
It's impossible to breathe.
There's only one thing that comes to mind.
I don't want it to be that.
But what the fuck else could it be?
Griffin: I'm not going to make a promise I can't keep.
Jules: Promise you'll try.
Griffin: Try how?
Jules: Promise you'll stop and think before you say anything.
Griffin: You hiding for my benefit or yours?
Jules: Both.
Griffin: I promise.
The screen is blank for a long moment.
Finally, it flashes with her text.
Jules: I still cut.
