I try to distract myself with my Kindle, but by sentence three, I'm carsick.

I pull out my cell. Switch to the audio of our latest YA book. Offer Griff one of my earbuds.

He moves closer.

I rest my head on his shoulder.

For a while, everything is normal. We share my headphones as we listen to a bouncy teenage girl introduce her life. Her best friend. The male best friend she doesn't want.

Even though she's clearly in love with him.

And totally oblivious to it.

Sometimes people can miss such obvious things.

Just as theteenagers fumble their way through an awkward make-out session, the city comes into view.

A gold skyscraper, a giant black pyramid, a fake castle, the New York City skyline, and a dozen giant casinos beyond that.

Las Vegas is bright in the desert sun.

It's not neon colors and debauchery, but it's gorgeous all the same. Like an actual oasis surrounded by miles and miles of dust.

I squeeze Griff's hand.

He squeezes back.

"We're really here," I whisper.

"In thirty minutes," he says.

"You ruin everything."

"I know."

"Where do you want it?" Griffin wraps his fingers around the handle of my suitcase. Lifts it over his head like it's weightless.

I shoot him aget reallook.

He returns it.This is real. "Should I unzip it and dump it on the floor so it matches your bedroom?"

"Haha." I roll my eyes. "Why did I come here again?"

"It was your idea, actually."

"Maybe I got hit on the head."

"Maybe you drank too much tequila."

My lips curl into a smile.
