"And you've been a fan of this classic for how long?" Forest asks.
"As long as your girlfriend introduced you to it?" I ask.
Wes shrugswhatever. "You look like an idiot, you know." He gives my all black outfit another once-over. "I guess it suits you."
"It's supposed to look ridiculous," I say.
"Haven't you seen the show?" Forest asks.
Wes raises a brow. "No, I have this thing called a life. I don't sit around watching TV."
"You sit around watching classic movies with your girlfriend," Forest says.
Wes nodsyeah. "What do you think happens after we watch the movies?"
"Wow, you have sex? First I've heard of that." Forest chuckles. "Not like you mention it at every opportunity."
"If you don't like hearing about it, don't listen," Wes says.
"There's no way to avoid it," I say. "You're loud enough the entire shop can hear it."
Wes smilesof course. "Hunter's around here somewhere. You two could share your revelations. Gush about your love of mopey bastards. And your love of acting like mopey bastards."
"Tempting offer." This is getting serious. Yeah, he's right. I need to reconcile with my brother eventually. But not now. Not until it feels right.
Hunter gets that.
I hope he still gets that.
Forest's gaze moves to the stairs. Goes right to Skye.
She descends slowly. Dramatically. Like she's channeling her alter ego.
She's dressed as Elvira, mistress of the dark, complete with a 70s black wig and a tight dress cut to her bellybutton.
"Fuck." Wes clears his throat. "You must be hard as a diamond right now."
Forest shakes his head. "You're an idiot."
"Oh yeah, stick with that story that you're not into her." Wes shakes his headyeah, right. "But you should think about something—"
"You know about thinking?" Forest teases.
"Yeah, I do it every so often." Wes watches Skye move to the main floor.
Half the room turns her way.
Halloween is always an excuse for women to show off without judgment. (Not like I'm complaining). But Skye is taking it to the next level.
She looks like she's about to claw the nearest guy and demand he serve at the mistress of dark's commands.
Forest's eyes stay glued to her. "Don't strain yourself."
"She's gonna give up on you one day," Wes says. "If you don't figure shit out."
"We're just friends." Forest's voice trails off.
"Just friends who want to fuck each other." Wes rolls his eyes. "Who are totally in love with each other."
