Devin: Confirmed.
“Let’s go,” I demand, killing the engine and shouldering open the door.
The second my foot hits the sidewalk, Kyle, my little brother, emerges from behind me. His eyes find mine but they don’t focus, thanks to the beer I plied him with earlier.
It was either that or find a way to get rid of him for the night, and I knew that wasn’t happening after he discovered who was attending this party.
“You gonna be good tonight, little bro?” I ask, grabbing him in a headlock and messing up his hair.
“Hey,” he complains, trying to fight me off.
Car doors slam as the twins climb from my car and the rest of our guys emerge from the others parked down the street.
I nod at Reid and Gray and the two of them head toward the house, the other guys hot on their tail.
They didn’t take much convincing to come here tonight, any excuse for them to shift some gear and make some cash, and they’re there.
Ezra looks at me from over the hood of the car, concern in his eyes, much like were in Kyle’s earlier but I ignore it.
I know what they’re thinking. Hell, they’re probably right to be concerned, but this is the first chance I’ve had in months and I’m not going to pass it up because they’re worried.
They might know parts of the story but they don’t know everything, they don’t know how deep the betrayal runs. They have no idea how much my need for revenge eats at me with every day that passes.
I let them all go first, more than happy to hang back in the shadows until the right time.
“Are you really sure—” Kyle starts.
“Get in that fucking house and find your girl, bro. Her brother isn’t here. You’ve got a free pass tonight. Make the fucking most of it,” I encourage, fed up with him pining after a girl he can’t have.
I push him forward and he walks into the house just behind the twins, his head twisting from side to side to find the girls we’re both looking for.
I know the second he sees them, his entire body jolts. I follow his eyeline into the living room at the mass of bodies dancing to the heavy bass being pumped through the house.
Bingo.
Her dark hair fills my eyes as she stares at the twins in horror.
A satisfied smile tugs at the corner of my lips.
Good to see the message that we weren’t coming got through loud and clear.
I stand in the shadows out of sight as she looks around.
My heart pounds and my fists curl. It doesn’t matter that her eyes are wide in fear. My need to get to her consumes me.
And she should be scared. She’s eluded me long enough.
It’s time for her to pay for her mistakes. It’s long overdue.
“Let’s go get a drink,” Devin says, stepping up beside me and all but dragging me to the kitchen.
He uncaps a couple of bottles of beer for us and I down mine the second he passes it over.
“I told you this was a bad idea,” he warns.
“And I told you to butt the fuck out of my business,” I seethe.
He rolls his eyes at me and it does nothing to calm the beast that’s raging inside me.
