"Letty, do you…" She trails off as if she doesn't even want to say the words she's thinking.

"Spit it out, Har," I demand as one of Bill's servers brings over our milkshakes.

She pauses as he slides them across to us.

"I think… I mean, I don't know for sure but…" I raise a brow at her, wishing she'd just cut to the chase. "I think he's a Hawk," she whispers.

I can't help myself, I throw my head back and laugh.

"You think? Jesus, Har."

"What?" she whines, looking totally put out.

"He is a Hawk. That's no secret. He's worked for Victor for years, he sold his soul to him in return for help getting Kyle back."

"He… shit." Harley falls back into the bench. "I mean, I suspected but… shit. Letty, you need to be careful if he's tied up with Victor."

Don't I fucking know it.

Bill brings our burgers over and our conversation comes to a grinding halt as we fill our faces, although at no point does it leave my head.

"If it helps at all, I wouldn't trust that bitch as far as I could throw her."

I stare at my sister's serious face for a few seconds.

It's not that I don't believe her. That bitch introduced herself while having a conversation about cheating on her husband. Her loyalty has never been in question. But…

"And I can trust Kane?" I ask, that's the real issue here.

"Letty," she sighs, pushing her half-eaten burger away. "Kane is… Kane. He's a lot of things, he's done bad shit. But he's not a liar. If he's telling you that she isn’t, then I'd be inclined to believe him." My eyes hold hers, shocked that she's rooting for him here. "What?" she asks with a laugh as if she can read my mind. "I know how to handle a Legend. And I know Kane likes to look like he doesn't care about anything, but I think that's far from the truth when it comes to you."

"You haven’t seen us together for years."

"True, but I've seen his face whenever your name comes up at home. You got yourself under his skin years ago, Let. And I'm pretty sure you never got out."

Her words take me straight back to the restaurant he took me to last week and his words ring out in my mind.

"You need to talk to him."

"I know," I mutter, my stomach dropping at just the thought. He was so angry last night. I can't imagine him willing to sit down and having a rational conversation about this.

Kane Legend doesn't do anything the rational way.

"I need to move," Harley says after a few silent minutes. "I think I'm going to explode otherwise."

"Come on, let's go."

We pay for our meals and wave to Bill who's in the kitchen before we head out. Without saying a word, we both walk toward the beach, it's as if we're drawn to the ocean.

Dropping down the steps, we both pull off our sneakers and walk down to the water's edge.

"I missed you, you know, when you went to college."

"I'm sorry I wasn't in contact more."

Harley must read more than I want her to in my tone because she looks over at me, her steps faltering.

"I didn't say that to make you feel guilty. I totally understand why you did what you did. I was just saying, it's nice having you close. Getting to do this again."
