"Shit, so… Alana's playing games? Trying to get in the middle of the two of you? Where's Letty?"
"She ran, I don't know where she went," I confess.
"She'll be okay. She's stronger than we all know."
"She lost our baby," I blurt out, unable to keep it in a second longer.
"Wait… what?" If the situation weren't so dire, I might laugh at the confused expression on Reid's face.
"The reason she left Columbia and started over at MKU was because I got her pregnant the night of Skye's party. She lost it at twenty weeks. She had to fucking deliver it and everything, man." My fingers curl in my hair until pain shoots down my neck, but it's nothing compared to that in my chest at saying the words out loud for the first time.
"Fuck," he breathes.
"I had no fucking idea," I confess.
"Shit."
"So her hearing that Alana is pregnant…" I trail off because I don't really need to attempt to explain how Letty must be feeling right now.
"What's the plan?" Reid asks, draining the rest of his beer.
"I don't believe her. I smell a rat. The fact she's clearly gone after Letty to ensure she knows first. Fuck," I say, scrubbing my hand over my face. "Something isn't fucking right here."
"Okay. I'll make her squeal like a fucking pig," he promises, something dark flashing through his eyes as he does.
"Make sure she's not actually fucking pregnant first."
"Kane," he snorts. "What do you think I am, a fucking monster?"
I can't help but burst out laughing at the faux innocence on his face.
"We all know exactly what you are," I mutter as he pulls his cell from his pocket.
Picking up my forgotten beer, I tip it to my lips as he hits call. The ring of his loudspeaker fills the room before Ellis answers.
"Bro, I got a job," Reid barks instead of a hello.
"Shoot."
"Alana Murray. I need her medical records."
"Sure thing. Give me twenty."
Reid hangs up without saying another word.
"Shall we race him for the answer?"
"Thought you'd never ask," I say, draining my bottle and eagerly standing up, ready to face the bitch and discover the truth.

Letty
My lungs burn, fighting to drag in the air I desperately need when I finally come to a stop on a street corner.
Resting my palm against the rough brickwork, tears continue to track down my cheeks as the image of her curling her hand around Kane's upper arm won't leave.
Something inside me shatters all over again as I remember how she looked up at him like he was the most important person in her world.
