“My turn,” Dar said. He was too excited, but I couldn’t blame him. The most we’d held was around three thousand, but that had disappeared the moment bills were due.
Sayge passed the money over to me. “Here you go.” He plopped down on Elio’s lap and leaned back.
How could Sayge be so carefree? Was I the only one worried we were literally in danger?
Elio’s hand wrapped around Sayge’s throat, and he turned his head and blew a cloud of smoke into Sayge’s open mouth before kissing him. I took a step toward them before I caught myself. The needy moans coming from Sayge felt as if they were pouring from my soul.
No, this was bad.
“Okay, so we have ten thousand each,” Dar said.
Elio pulled away from Sayge’s lips and passed over five more stacks. Dar grabbed them and went to count instantly. I left it to him and made my way to a seat. I went to walk past them, but Elio’s big hand wrapped around my wrist, and I stopped instantly. My heart was racing as I waited for him to tell me what to do.
A knock came from the door just as Elio’s mouth opened. Sayge pouted but sat up.
“Want to know how much?” Dar asked.
Sayge shrugged. He didn’t seem interested in the money, and I couldn’t blame him. I couldn’t shake this attraction to Elio either, but we needed to.
“Well enough to get a tv,” Dar said.
I shook my head. Elio returned to us, packing the money in the bag he’d taken out, and handed it back to us. We followed him to the door, all of us silent, even Dar now that we were being led out. We knew this was coming, and yet it felt like none of us wanted to go.
“This is Ken. You saw him last night,” Elio said.
The tall man with black curly hair and rich brown skin smiled at us. Before we could return the gesture, Elio stepped in front of us, blocking the door.
“Eyes to yourself, or you’ll find a bullet between them.”
“Right, boss.” Ken looked at us, no longer smiling, as Elio moved to the side. “Come on. I can take you three home.”
Sayge sauntered over to Elio and gave him one last kiss, and my lips tingled with want. Dar flipped Elio off, and I was sure he was expecting the man to grab him. The smile on Dar’s face said it all.
Their lips met in a heated kiss, and I knew they both wanted to ask for a repeat, but I shook my head. I hated making decisions and being in charge, but we’d end up in a gutter somewhere if I didn’t.
I glanced at Elio. There was so much I wanted, but it could never be with him. I turned away and headed for the door. If I didn’t keep moving, I was bound to do something stupid. Like kissing Elio and asking him to be our real daddy.
ChapterEight
ELIO
“Oh,man, let’s get this one,” Dar said excitedly, pointing at a sixty-inch television.
Calvin looked up from the piece of paper he held in his hand. He’d been scratching things off as they went through the store. His fingers slid through his dark brown hair. My fingers itched to do the same.
I’d been right; once wasn’t enough. I stayed hidden but ensured my view of them wasn’t distorted.
“We can’t take a sixty-inch on the bus,” Calvin said. His shoulders were tight, and he tugged on the strands.
“We can always call a car pick-up,” Sayge said.
Calvin looked exhausted, and the need to go over there and handle it all had me taking a step toward them.
“We can’t spend too much money,” Calvin said.
Dar didn’t fight him on it. His shoulders dropped, but he nodded. “You’re right.”
Still, he wanted it. I could easily have it delivered to their place. I sent a message to Ken to have it done. There was no need to wait for confirmation. It would be there by the time they made it home.
