“By whom?”

Benjamin shook his head. “I can’t.”

I felt the smile curved corners of my mouth. No matter how I tried to shove it away, there was no hiding my true thoughts. Not when Benjamin had just given me a treat for the night.

“Who’s the supplier?”

Benjamin visibly shuddered. “Cartel.”

I stared down at him waiting for him to take back his answer. No such luck. It only raised more questions and made this a mess far bigger then I originally thought.

“The man that work for you?” I asked.

“Some teens I hired off the street.”

Of course. They had one rule in their territory: dont sell to kids. But Benjamin decided that rule didn’t apply to him. He not only sold to kids but employed them too.

“I can get you their names.”

“No need,” I said. They’d already been checked over. “Need the name of whom you’re under.”

“I will lose everything,” Benjamin cried out.

I watched him break down further. He continued to shake his head, babbling how things weren’t supposed to go this way. I checked the time, and it was up.

“I hope you can stay this loyal,” I said.

Benjamin looked up, and the horrified look in his eyes was almost comical. “Wha-what do you mean?”

Straightening up, I erased the smile off my face. “No matter.” I turned away from him with excitement jumping through me.

“Wait, untie me!”

I opened the door.

“Hey!” Benjamin shouted.

I let it close behind me, cutting off his shouting. “Grab him and make sure his car is gone. I want him ready when I get home.”

“You got it,” Diego said.

I took the gloves off and folded them. The blood smudged my fingers as I put them away. Diego passed me a few wipes I reluctantly took.

“Hey, who’s in there?” Andino asked as he sauntered over to me.

I glanced at Novak.

“We’ve been keeping him back, but he’s like a cockroach that just keeps coming right back.”

“Hey, do you know who you’re talking about?” Andino said, stepping toward Novak. The last thing I needed was a scene and word to return to certain people before I had answers.

“No one you need to be worried about,” I said.

Andino looked me up and down. “No one’s blood is still on your hands.”

I didn’t have to glance down. I felt the sticky liquid drying. I’d had enough blood on my hands to know what it felt like. I finished wiping them down and passed the wipe to Novak.

“Come on, we’re family,” Andino tried again.
