Ken shook his head. “Dead. Both by the same man who raised him.”

What?I glanced at Calvin, and he looked ashen from the news. I’d never thought about what our lives would have been like if the three of us had never escaped our fucked up homes. My chest ached, and I absently rubbed it. Elio hadn’t escaped his.

Ken continued to talk. “He was trained for this position specifically. Anything precious to him was yanked away. To this day, if he favors a weapon, he will toss it out after a few weeks of use.”

My stomach clenched. What did that mean for us?

“Shit,” Novak said. “Look, doesn’t mean that’s going to happen to you three. Your circumstances are—”

Devyn cleared his throat. “Special.”

Sayge nodded. “Duh. Have you seen how he looks at us?”

How in the fuck was he so nonchalant even after learning this?I sighed, knowing I couldn’t do anything about it. Elio would tell us the moment he was done. I doubted the man knew how to pretend like he was still interested.

“What about you guys?” Calvin asked.

Novak scratched at his facial hair. “Us? Well, it’s more of the other way around. We formed a friendship around Elio.”

Ken grunted. “Elio doesn’t do traditional friendship. There will always be a chance he will kill one or all of us someday.”

“And you’re all okay with that?” I asked.

Devyn shrugged. “It’s kind of one of those things you just accept. Like you don’t like the seeds on strawberries, but you love their taste.”

“Bro, that is a shitty comparison,” Novak pointed out.

“We care for Elio. We have been with him since we were teens, and he’s done something for all of us. Following him is the least we could do,” Ken said.

I kind of understood that. If Sayge or Calvin turned out to be some sociopath, crazy killer, perhaps I’d still be their friend. Might even hide a body. I looked over at Cal and then Sayge. It would ten out of ten be Sayge who’d turn out to be the killer.

Sayge smiled at me as if he could read my mind. He turned back around. “Okay, I just have one question.”

Ken nodded as he fixed his bun. Dark curls fell around his face. If I weren’t hooked on Elio, I’d seriously consider Ken. He was hot, had a tattoo sleeve, muscles in all the right places, rich brown skin, and a deep voice.

“Did any of you fuck Elio?” Sayge blurted out.

Rage filled me, and I was standing with balled-up fists at my side. I knew I couldn’t take any of these guys, but logic could suck a dick.

“Calm down, Dar,” Devyn said as he laughed. “There is no way in hell any of us would get in bed with Elio.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Calvin asked. He sounded just as angry as I felt.

“No offense, but we’ve heard enough screams from that room from all three of you. That last hours,” Novak said.

“Shit.” I plopped back down and covered my face.

Ken shook his head. “Not to mention he’s terrifying when you aren’t his type.”

I didn’t see it. Elio was like a god even when he was covered in blood.

“The fact that all three of you looked ready to murder us proves you’re meant for Elio,” Devyn said.

I smiled.I hoped so.

Our cellophane dinged, and all three of us went for it. The guys laughed at us as we banged heads. As Sayge and Calvin fell back, rubbing their heads, I grabbed the phone off the coffee table.

Elio: You three being good?
