Shit, Novak. Was he okay?I was dragged across the pavement, and the pain was slow to register as my head continued to spin.
“Slit his throat and leave him.”
I jerked as hard as I could and dropped to the ground.
Couldn’t let them kill Novak.
I forced my eyes open. The brightness was blinding, but I rolled over.
“Fuck, get him.”
A foot came my way, and I was too slow to block it as it hit the side of my head. The spots that had been dancing in my vision took over completely as I slumped down. I was vaguely aware that someone had picked me up again. I was helpless.
Only one person came to mind.My daddy, Elio.
ChapterTwenty
ELIO
My phone vibratedin my pocket. I yanked it out, expecting it to be my men. I’d finally texted them back now that we were heading back toward the warehouse. The old man had taken up too much of my time. The sun was going down, and I couldn’t wait to hold them in my arms.
I frowned at Novak’s name flashing on the screen.
“Hello?”
“Elio.” Novak went into a coughing fit, and I was instantly worried.
“Sir, please, stop. We need to get you in for surgery,” someone said in the background.
Surgery? Where were my boys?
I sat up. My hand tightened around the phone, making the metal creak.
“What?” Ken asked. I couldn’t answer him, not yet.
“They took them,” Novak wheezed out.
“Who?”
There was so much commotion in the background that I wanted to reach through the phone and kill whoever was keeping Novak from telling me what had happened. My stomach cramped as I held my breath.
“Rocc—” He coughed more. “Took…your guys.”
“Sir!” There was a loud crash, but I could not focus on it as pure rage filled me.He’d taken them?
“Elio?” Ken tried again.
“Turn around,” I said in a deathly calm voice.
Ken flinched but nodded as he turned to tell Devyn to turn around. Pain trickled up my arm from my hand. I looked down. I’d squeezed the phone so tight the glass cut the flesh of my palm. The line of blood dripping down wouldn’t be the only bloodshed.
If I had to, I’d paint Arizona red as long as I got my boys safe and back in my arms.
“What’s the plan?” Ken asked.
The idea of talking made me want to murder everyone, but I knew I couldn’t do that.
“Novak is in the hospital. Devyn, find out where and go. Feleti, you and Ken are with me.”
