Shit. It wasn’t my first time seeing one pointed at me, but it didn’t make it any less scary.

My blood thundered through me, blocking out all sound. A grunt penetrated it. I glanced away only to see Dar go down as two more guys started kicking and beating him.

“Stop,” I pleaded.

“Get them the fuck out of here and tie him back up. Pathetic, you can’t handle a bunch of fucking sissies.” The man pointing the gun at me pulled it back and walked away. He was clearly in charge.

We were yanked out of the trunk. I swallowed back the cry of pain as my wrist hit the trunk’s edge.

We were dragged into a dank building that was missing half its roof. It was its only saving grace. The smell of mold was only mild because of the airflow.

I thought they’d keep us together, but we were split apart.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked.

The man stepped up to me. His hand whipped across my cheek, and pain flared on that side of my face.

He walked away, looking down on us as if we were nothing more than shit on his shoes. “Don’t you know getting involved with an animal like Elio, this was going to be your fate?” The man laughed like a cliche evil genius.

“Fuck you,” Dar wheezed out. He coughed as someone kicked him.

The man, clearly the leader, grabbed Calvin’s hair and yanked him up.

Another man with green eyes looked oddly familiar. He looked like a smaller version of Elio. Still, that wasn’t why I felt like I’d seen him before. I couldn’t think of where or when at the moment.

“Sit down,” the man standing behind me growled.

I was shoved down to the sand-covered pavement. I bit the inside of my cheek and kept from screaming as I landed on my wrist.

“All that monster knows is how to kill. Haven’t you heard he killed his own mother?” He grinned as if he’d revealed the ultimate secret.

However, we already knew the truth. He could make up all the lies he wanted, but our love for Elio wouldn’t waver.

Rocco walked in a circle staring down at us. “In fact, all three of you should be on your knees, licking my shoes clean. Thanking me for saving you.”

No!Elio wouldn’t do that to us. He took care of us, fed us, clothed us, and catered to each of our needs without complaint. He was our daddy.

Calvin surprised me as he hacked a glob of spit at the man. It hit him on the cheek. “Elio owns every inch of me. If he wants my life to then, I’ll slit my own throat for him.”

My heart stuttered, and I couldn’t help the smile that stretched my lips.

“Our daddy is going to rip you to pieces,” I said.

The man tossed Calvin to the side, and my friend hit the pavement with an audible thump.

“I hope he cuts your cock off and shoves it down your throat,” Dar shouted.

“Shut him the fuck up!”

“Hey, Rocco, maybe you know I’m having some second thoughts about this,” the familiar-looking man said.

His gaze flickered around, searching the shadows like a man who knew he’d taken a monster’s belongings.

“Shut the hell up, Andino. He can’t touch us,” Rocco said. His eyes were slightly crazed.

I’d seen plenty of people on drugs, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rocco were on a few.

“Did you forget he fucked us out of our money?”
