"Extremely specialized. One woman only." I brush my lips against hers. "So what do you say? Want to get some... rest?"
The playfulness in her eyes shifts to something deeper, more intense. She stands on tiptoe, her lips nearly touching mine.
"Take me to bed, Enzo."
I scoop Sienna into my arms, her weight familiar and perfect against my chest. She laughs, wrapping her arms around my neck as I carry her up the stairs.
"You know I can walk," she says, but her head rests against my shoulder.
"Where's the fun in that?"
In our room, I set her down gently, my hands lingering at her waist. Her eyes meet mine, that perfect blue that first caught my attention at the casino. I still can't believe she's here, safe, with me.
I lower my mouth to hers, savoring the soft press of her lips. She sighs against me, her fingers threading through my hair, pulling me closer. The kiss deepens, and I back her toward the bed, my hands sliding beneath her shirt to feel the warmth of her skin.
"Enzo," she whispers against my lips, and fuck if my name has ever sounded better.
I'm about to lay her down when a sharp knock rattles the bedroom door.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me," I growl, pulling away. Sienna's eyes widen, her lips still parted and tempting.
Another knock, more insistent.
"I'll get rid of them," I promise, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead before stalking to the door.
I yank it open, ready to tear into whoever dared interrupt us. "This better be?—"
Alessio stands in the hallway, his usual easy smile nowhere to be seen. His jaw is tight, his eyes hard in a way that immediately sets me on edge.
"What's wrong?" The anger drains from me, replaced by the cold certainty that something serious has happened.
"We need to talk," Alessio says, his voice low. He glances past me to where Sienna sits on the edge of the bed. "Now."
I glance back at Sienna, torn between my responsibilities and the woman I love. Her eyes reflect concern, those blue depths questioning.
"Give me a minute," I tell Alessio, my voice low.
He nods once, stepping back. "I'll wait downstairs."
I close the door and turn to Sienna, who's already standing, arms crossed protectively over her chest.
"What's happening?" she asks, her voice steady despite the worry etched across her face.
I cross the room in three strides, cupping her face in my hands. "I don't know yet. But I need to find out."
"Enzo—"
I silence her with a kiss, deep and thorough, trying to pour every ounce of reassurance into it. When I pull back, her cheeks are flushed, her eyes half-lidded.
"I'll get back to finish what we started," I promise, brushing my thumb across her bottom lip. "Wait for me."
"I'll be waiting," she says.
I press one more quick kiss to her lips before heading for the door. When I glance back, she's standing tall, arms at her sides instead of wrapped around herself as she first did when I brought her here.
CHAPTER 42
Ifollow Alessio downstairs, tension coiling through my body. Whatever's happened must be serious for him to interrupt like that.
