“This is what you do isn’t it? Make deals over your champagne glasses. Network.”
He assessed her with interest. She wasn’t being rude, but her tone and her words weren’t exactly what he expected from someone like her. Servers were meant to be deferential and polite.
Deferential and polite? He was beginning to sound as bad as Ioannis. “You ask a lot of questions.”
“You were bored, and you came looking for company. I’m keeping you company.” Her ability to read his mind startled him.
“I appreciate that.” His answer startled him further. For a man who hated company, he seemed to have done a complete U-turn.
“Only because you didn’t get me in trouble at the taverna.”
“Your friend stood up for you.”
“Stefanos.” The waitress smiled. “He’s always looking out for me. I say things I sometimes shouldn’t.”
“You speak your mind, and that’s refreshing. I didn’t expect that.”
“You expect me to smile and pour you another drink and say nothing.”
“I prefer todrinkmy drinks rather than wear them.”
“I’ll try to remember that next time.”
