She regretted sending that. But this was good, for her, it gave her hope that he’d missed her text completely.
Dominic: We parted on good terms.
Eleni: Good
Eleni breathed a sigh of relief. Okay. This was good. Maybe he wasn’t crazy about his ex. They were friends. This. Was. Good. This she could take.
Dominic: She’s marrying Galatis’ nephew. Small world.
She almost fell off the bed. What? Galatis’ nephew? So, it was true. These billionaires all mixed in the same circles. She had more questions.
Eleni: Then why are you drinking like a sad man?
Dominic: She wanted to know who my plus one was, for the table settings
Eleni: And?
Dominic: There is no plus one
Her heart did a somersault inside her chest.
Why was he telling her this?
Eleni: What about Helen?
She bit her lower lip. Had she learned nothing? Bringing up Helen’s name turned Dominic into a rabid dog.
Dominic: She’s my lawyer. How many times do I have to tell you?
She couldn’t tell if he was angry or sad, the way he’d fired off that reply so quickly.
Maybe Helen was just a friend, and not a friend-with-benefits? But it still didn’t make sense why Dominic would drink more because of a table arrangement setting. Was he ashamed to go alone? Was that why?
Maybe it was jealousy, maybe he wanted to show his ex that he was doing fine without her. An idea sprouted in her mind, and because her recklessness was in full swing, she sent him her reply:
Eleni: If you need to make the bride jealous, I’ll go as your fake date
She’d gone too far. Crossed that line between employee and boss. Worse, she’d made the mistake of thinking that he had feelings for her, just because she did for him.
A reply buzzed through, and she jumped off the bed, staring at her screen, afraid to read what he’d texted.
Dominic: I don’t
She swallowed. Okay. This was good. He’d ignored her offer for what it was. Ludicrous rubbish. Dots appeared on her screen and she held her breath.
Dominic: need to make her jealous
She sighed with relief, and quickly typed a reply.
Eleni: That’s good
Their messages criss-crossed again with his flashing up at the exact same time.
Dominic: That’s not a bad idea. Why don’t you?
She watched more dots appear on the screen, then:
Dominic: come along, that is.
