CHAPTERTHIRTY

DOMINIC

He was already panicking.

Eleni hadn’t even needed time to think about his offer and she’d accepted it before he’d even finished telling her what he needed from her.

Now he wondered how he would survive that weekend.

Eleni had no idea.

No goddamn idea at all how much she affected him.

She charged into his office early the next morning. “Where is it? The wedding?”

“Close the door please.” He watched her sashay back to the door, wearing a pale yellow sundress and nude pumps, then forced his gaze to his paper diary as she sat down opposite him.

“Santorini.”

“Santorini?”

He nodded, his head feeling wooden, like a certain part of his anatomy had been when he’d woken up this morning.

“I’ve never been there,” she cried, happily.

“No?” How the heck was he going to get through it with her by his side? It wasn’t too late to hire an escort. The trivial conversation wouldn’t kill him as much as an unattended, weekend long, hard on would.

“I’ve been to many of the Greek islands, but I’ve never been there,” she chirped happily, completely unaware of his uneasiness.

“Hmmmm.” If she was going to be this excited, and look this gorgeous, he was going to be in big trouble. “It’s not just a wedding. There will be parties and dinners and drinks going on.”

“And you intend to go to them all?”

“The Laskaris family like to flaunt their wealth. They’ll put on a lavish event.” He hadn’t yet decided if he would attend all the fancy events, but he planned to be wherever Galatis was. He could sense Eleni’s reticence. “As long as you attend the wedding, we’ll be fine.”

“Aren’t you worried about how this looks?” she asked, waving a hand between them. “About you and me being a couple?”

“I won’t be announcing it in the company’s newsletter,” he assured her. “And in Santorini who would know?”

“Your friends and acquaintances. Doesn’t that bother you?”

Her worry confused him. “Why should it?”

“Because I work for you.”

“Nobody knows that.”

“What about Galatis?”

“I don’t think he’s seen you. You were always at a distance or in the car, and even if he did, so what?”

“So what?”

“I don’t care if Galatis thinks I’m dating my …assistant.” He threw his hands up in the air, unable to come up with a better word.

She seemed to ponder over this, then, “At least you can show your ex that you’re not sad and single.”

“We’re ... not ... dating,” he reminded her.
