Why the fuck was he even thinking about that?
“You will see I have good qualifications, but I didn’t study further.”
“This looks good.” He put it down to go through properly later. As for her salary, he plucked a figure out of the air, the salary that Miranda was on, not stopping to consider that Miranda had been here for a few years, while Eleni was just starting out. Her eyes widened in disbelief, but the shock vanished as quickly as it had sparked.
“Would that be acceptable?”
She nodded, unable to speak.
“Leave it to me.” He rose, remembering that he had a conference call with his father and brother. “I’ll be in touch.”
“Thank you for this. For giving me this opportunity,” she said, turning to him at the door, in a rare display of gratitude. The waitress he’d first met had gone. This Eleni was humble and grateful, and some of her feistiness had gone. If truth be told, he missed that part of her.
Linus walked in as Eleni left, and Dominic’s blood pressure shot up. Did the man stand by Miranda’s desk all day waiting for him?
“Not now, Linus. I have phone calls to prepare for.”
“You hired her?”
“She can help with the odd translation issues I have.”
“But you have me.”
Unfortunately, he did. He not only had Galatis to try to win over, but he also had pain-in-his-butt Linus grovelling at every turn and getting in his way.
He didn’t like being questioned so closely by Linus, especially with the waitress due to start work next week—something he would definitely make happen. “I don’t want to have to rely on you. You’re a manager and your time should be spent on more important things. Not translating for me.”
Linus winked at him and waggled a thick finger at him. “She’s hot, eh?”
“Shut the fuck up,” he growled. Another asshole eyeing the poor girl as an object. “That’s not why I hired her.”
