The next day he stopped by Miranda’s desk and asked her if she could block some time out to show Eleni the in-house computer system.

“Me?” his PA asked, turning bright red, the color closely creeping upwards from her neck to her ears.

“Yes, you.” He explained that the new hire, Eleni, wasn’t familiar with the system, and that Agnes had given her a rough guide to it, but he felt Eleni could do with an in-depth overview. “You know the system inside out, Miranda. You’re the best person for it.”

“The best? You really think so?” Her cheeks deepened to a shade not unlike a ripe tomato.

He nodded. “Could you show Eleni?”

“Yes.”

“Arrange it with her, but sometime this week would be good.”

Miranda’s eyes looked glazed, and he wasn’t sure how much of what he’d said had gone in because she was smiling at him, hanging onto his every word as if he was reading her a bedtime story.

He clicked his fingers. “This week? Eleni? Make sure to show her.” Sometimes he wasn’t sure what planet she was on, but the work she produced was always of excellent quality, and she was good at it.

Miranda blinked, snapping out of whatever fantasy world she’d been in. “I’ll arrange a time with her.”
