The article talks about the early years of Strong Sterling, mentioning a wife and son.

I start skimming, until I come to another paragraph that has my eyes slowing their quick perusal and I pull in a sharp breath. “Oh.”

Gabriel’s wife was killed in a tragic train accident eighteen years ago. He’s never remarried. The stupid empath in me has my chest tightening as I blink the sudden stinging sensation in my eyes. How horrific to lose the love of your life that way. No wonder his expression is closed off.

Feeling as if I’ve ventured into a part of him that he wouldn’t want me to see, I click out of the article, but the feeling of loss sticks with me.

Respect and professionalism, Tess. Remember that.

Subject: Introduction

Good afternoon, Mr. Strong,

Welcome to TaskGenius VA!

As your new virtual assistant, I look forward to helping you in any way I can to take some of the mundane tasks off your plate so you can better focus on your CEO duties at Strong Sterling Enterprises.

My name is Theresa James. I have been a Virtual Assistant for five years with a stable of happy clients. According to your intake form, you will need assistance with the following: inbox management, calendar management, scheduling dinners and meetings, travel planning and various reminders that will aide in your business.

I’d like to mention that I am also proficient in social media and professional networking if you were interested in those services.

I’m happy to discuss this and other possible duties during our first video conference where we will discuss the particulars of each of my duties.

I greatly look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Theresa James

Should I take out the professional networking recommendation? I highly doubt I have networking connections that run in the same circles as Mr. Strong. No, I’ll keep it. It’ll show him that I can do more than basic VA tasks.

I hit send then open a blog post for my florist client. While I’m editing the post I can’t help but think of Gabriel Strong. I’m not sure why I’m so excited to work for him except for the fact that I mainly assist small business owners and entrepreneurs. He’s by far my biggest client and why wouldn’t that be exciting?

I keep an eye on the corner of my computer screen in case he emails back with a time for us to video conference. I wouldn’t want to wait too long to answer him and give a bad first impression.

Chapter three

Gabe

“Jack! Get in here!”

I’m tapping my fingers on my desk while I impatiently wait for my idiot brother to stroll in.

He appears and leans a shoulder against the door jam. “You bellowed, your highness.”

“What is this?” I rotate my laptop around and point at the screen.

“A laptop.”

“You’re not funny. Read the email.”
