“You know that nobody likes conversations that start like that, right?” I ask sitting up.
“I know.”
“Oh wow, this is serious. Okay.” Now I’m nervous, but we are here in this room and he’s been attentive all night. And, oh yeah, we’re engaged. This can’t be that bad. I relax on the outside but brace myself on the inside. Just in case.
“I did not intend to propose to you tonight,” he sighs.
“Oh.”
How do I take that?
That’s good, right?
Because I thought he was insane for doing it in the first place. And I had to talk myself into saying yes.
But, why wouldn’t he propose? He told me I’m his lightning bolt. What’s wrong with me that he doesn’t want to marry me?
I guess I’ll find out.
“Why?” I ask.
