I flop back on my bed and close my eyes. “Fine.”

“But not right now.”

She makes me dizzy with how quickly she can flip from topic to topic.

“Right now,” she continues, “we need to talk about why you think there are no happily ever afters?”

“Well, for one because you just said you’re dying.”

“I’m rolling my eyes at you right now. And I’m only telling you because you can’t see me,” she says. “Who is to say that’s notmyhappily ever after?”

“Well, then what about Brad’s?”

“He’ll get his later, at the end of his life.”

“But you’re supposed to be his.”

“And I am, right now.”

“You frustrate me.”

“I get that a lot.”

I laugh. “What does this have to do with me?”

“Ohmigod, woman. Have you not been listening?”

“Apparently not.”

“Come back. Be happy.”

“It won’t last.”

“Eh. Maybe, maybe not. You won’t know unless you try.”

“It’s not the smart move to make.”

“Is that you talking or your mom?”

“Me.”

“Liar.”

“Ohmigod, you don’t even know me that well. What makes you think you can just say these things?”

“I have no verbal filter.”

If there is a top, Kat is over it one hundred percent.

“Maybe I will change my mind in the future. But for now, this is the decision I’m making. I’m staying here. And I would really appreciate your help in retrieving the rest of my things.”

“Okay. Fine.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”
