“To this? Oh no. I’m hardy comfortable being here myself, I would never want to feel responsible for someone else too.”
“Oh, yeah, I get it. That makes sense.”
“What about you? Did you bring a date?”
“Me? No. I think I will try being alone for a while, see how that feels. No women at all.”
“Oh, wow. That’s different. Well, good luck with that.”
“Thanks. So, hey, I’m manning the hot dog grill out front for most of the day, if you get hungry, come say hi.”
“I will. I’ve got pin the head on the baby for the three-ring circus. But at least there’s a prize if you get all three heads on different bodies.”
“That’s cool. I’ll have to try it. Okay, well, thanks for talking to me. I mostly just wanted to apologize.” He turns and walks back in the house.
Huh.
He was mature, he apologized, there were no caustic remarks, we didn’t argue about anything, and it was a normal conversation.
Something must be wrong.

As far as I can tell, the shower is really more for all the guests than anyone else. Between the entertainment and the games, I can see where Chance and Remi are able to enjoy some of it, though they aren’t playing the games to win, but they got a ton of gifts, which will hopefully help to offset the expense of three babies. But as far as baby showers go, this one was unlike any other I had ever seen or attended.
My stomach growls and I decide that maybe now is the time for a hotdog. My game has already been played enough for all the prizes to be given out, so people don’t have much of an impetus to play it any longer. I head inside and look at all the goings on with theThree Little Pigstheme. Remi is sitting on the couch surrounded by friends and family. Chance is on the floor at her feet, rubbing them while he tells everyone else a story.
I tear up a little at that. It’s such a show of dedication and love. I mean, he is massaging her feet, in front of everyone, and he doesn’t care who sees him. Maybe to some that wouldn’t be a big deal, but it is to me.
I touch up my makeup in the bathroom then head out to the front yard. I see Ethan at the grill right off. And he’s talking to a stunning redhead. They are laughing about something and she pulls her phone from her back pocket and hands it to him. He types something in it and hands it back.
Ohmigod. He gave her his number. After all that about being alone for a while and not dating. Not even two hours later, he’s at it again. He’s incapable of keeping his word. He glances up then and sees me standing there. He smiles and waves me over. I turn and walk back in the house. Fuck this guy.
