“Look toward the bar,” he instructs.
I do and see Antonia sitting there, looking drop-dead gorgeous, as she gives us a wave and a smile.
“I’m confused. Did you guys break up?”
“We were never together.”
“But she’s in your room . . . and the bikini . . . she told me to stay away,” I stammer. Something I seem to do a lot around him.
“Toni is my best friend. But that’s all. We’re just friends.”
“Friends that stay in the same hotel room?”
“Is that a problem?” he asks.
“Yes, it’s a problem! Have you seen her?”
“I have.”
“She’s beautiful.”
“She is.”
“My god, Riggs, even I would want to sleep with her if we were in the same hotel room.”
“And she you,” he says.
“And she . . . huh?”
“Toni likes women, not men. And call me silly, but I’d rather be with a woman that likes men, since I am one and all.”
“She’s gay?”
“Yup.” He makes a popping sound with the p, a smug look on his face.
“I love that about her.” I smile. “Wait, if you guys aren’t together, why did she warn me to stay away from you?”
He sighs. “I’m sorry about that. She gets a little . . . worked up sometimes. She said she wanted to see what you were made of. I didn’t know she was going to do that, or I would have asked her not to. She’d like to apologize if you’ll give her the chance.”
“I’d like that,” I tell him, leaning my head back against his chest.
“So, does this mean you’ll go out with me?” Riggs asks.
“It does.”
“Can I kiss you again?” His voice is gruff.
“You can.” My smile grows as he places his fingers under my chin and tilts my head up. His lips descend to capture mine and he kisses the hell out of me.
Then he does it again.
And a few more times after that too.
We stay that way for a while, lips intermittently locked, bodies fused together, swaying to our own beat regardless of the tempo in the music.
Until I’m abruptly hip checked to the side.
“Hey, Morgan, not sure if you’re aware, but it’s a fast song right now and you are goingslow. I’m going to cut in. Riggs, my friend, I’ll give her back in one piece. Cool?” Michael doesn’t wait for an answer or apologize for barging in between us. He just grabs my hand and tugs me to the side, twirling me a time or two before pulling me into his chest and sliding his arms around my waist.
