ME: I’m hiding in the bathroom.

DARBY: Why?

ME: I think it’s so I don’t end up having sex with him again. I start out strong, and then he smiles or kisses me or just exists, and I’m like jelly.

DARBY: What flavor jelly?

ME: I tell you I’m self-sabotaging with sex, and you ask what flavor I am?

DARBY: Jelly is tricky that way.

ME: Grape.

DARBY: Good choice.

DARBY: So, what are you going to do?

ME: I’m coming home today.

DARBY: You sure about that?

ME: Yes, I’m sure about that!

DARBY: Okay, let me know your flight. I’ll pick you up from the airport.

ME: Sounds good. Love you, D!

DARBY: Love you more!

I dry my hair the best I can with no diffuser, put on the other robe, and leave my temporary sanctuary to enter the lion’s den.

Wyatt has breakfast on the table, enough to feed the whole wedding party. I get some yogurt and fruit with granola and curl up in one of the chairs to watch him. His plate is brimming with pancakes, eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, and hash browns. He’s making small noises of contentment while he eats. I steel myself against the crooked one-dimpled smile I know is coming that will weaken my defenses.

And, three, two, one—he raises his head, right on cue, and lets it take over his face. Looking more effortlessly gorgeous with uncombed hair while wearing a generic hotel robe than most people do with teams of stylists who are trying their best.

He doesn’t even have food in his teeth.

I haven’t even tried one of the berries from my yogurt yet, but I bet if I smile, there will still be a seed stuck somewhere.

“Good morning, beautiful.”

I really like it when he calls me that.

“Did you see the comments from Pete and Amy in the app?” he asks.

I shake my head.

He chuckles. “They’re claiming we cheated.”

“How?”

“By getting married ourselves. And that we had an unfair advantage as two single people whocouldget married. And it shouldn’t count since married people couldn’t do the same.”

I frown. “They could have renewed their vows or something.”

“That’s what I said.” He looks excited that we thought the same thing.

God, I wish he weren’t so irresistible. It would make leaving a lot easier.
