Do I count all the years? The years before the rejection? Or the years after?

Blanche:If you get over him.

I will get over him. I can’tnotget over him. I pull my list of reasons why I’m not supposed to want Wyatt Reed.

Reasons to hate Wyatt.

Things to forget about Wyatt.

Things to remind myself.

Read when you feel Wyatt-weak:

You have one job. Shut him down the way he did you.

Reasons why you don’t want W.R.

1. The sex is good and he’s handsome. We’re only supposed to get one or the other.

2. He’s not the marrying kind.

3. I miss him way too fucking much when he’s not here.

There are still only two things on the list. And ones not even mine, I stole it from Darby. I had to cross off item number two since he married me. If he weren’t the marrying kind, he wouldn’t have done that. There’s got to be more reasons why I don’t want him. But in the last few weeks, I haven’t been able to come up with a single one.

Blake calls me two more times before I finally answer. “Didn’t you get my message?” he asks.

“I’ve been busy,” I hedge.

“Yeah, well, unbusy. I need your help.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Taylor’s maid of honor, Jill, has chicken pox. The entire bridal party was exposed, including Taylor.”

“Oh my god, Blake, are you okay? Are you sick? How do you feel?” Blake was born immunocompromised. Which alone may have been okay where chicken pox is concerned, but he contracted bacterial meningitis right when he was ten, further weakening his immune system. He was hospitalized for a while, and even though he’s okay now, he must take precautions when exposed to contagion.

“I’m fine; I’ve already seen the doctor. Most of them were exposed at school and when they got together to do something wedding related. Ironically Taylor was staying at her maid of honor’s house when she found out. So, it never reached me. But they all have quarantine for ten to fourteen days.”

“Thank god,” I say. “What about the baby?”

“Taylor says the baby is fine. I’m still waiting for something from the doctor to prove as much. Not that I don’t trust Taylor, but she was acting funny when I asked for it.”

“You’re getting married in a week,” I remind him.

“I know. We’ll have to figure that part out somehow. According to Taylor, the real problem is with the wedding party.”

“What’s the problem?”

“With no bridesmaids, the numbers aren’t balanced. Either we both have no wedding party, or she needs a new maid of honor. And I’m not cutting Wy.”

My heart beats faster at the mention of Wyatt’s name. I want to ask how he is. Where he is? What he’s doing? How he looks? If he thinks about me.

But I don’t.

Blanche:Ask!
