“I don’t like them putting a timer on our matingmoon,” Cobalt frowned.

“It’s not like that,” Teal said. “At least I don’t think it is. You can come back here. It’s the true-mate magic talking. It’s not going to be everyone. Just our family.”

“That’s still a lot of people and….” Cobalt said, glancing at me out of the corner of his eye.

“I know,” Indigo sighed. “I tried to tell them too.”

“We’ll just leave if becomes too much,” Cobalt announced. “Let’s not allow it to damper our matingmoon.”

“We should build a nest,” I announced, wanting anything to talk about that wasn’t a house full of strangers or them wanting to banish my murderous protector. “We could make our own party of it. We could have snacks and you three could show us how it’s done.”

“Are you pregnant?” Ambry asked, dropping Indigo’s hand and stepping forward to take mine.

“Umm… No. We used a condom. You might be pregnant, though, huh?” I turned the question back around on him.

“Maybe,” he nodded. “The nest might be a good idea. Egg pregnancies don’t always last as long, do they?”

“No, they don’t,” Indigo said, stepping up to hug him from behind.

“I’ll get the snacks and gather the stuff, if we’re going to do this,” Teal said, bringing his wings back out.

“What? Don’t want to cuddle with us?” Cobalt teased. “We’ll even let you bring Crilus.”

“Eh, no thanks,” Teal shook his head. “I’m not dating again. He’s pissed. Thinks we’d be the cutest couple ever. I’ve had enough boyfriends meet mates that I’m done with it.”

He disappeared into the open sky before any of us could offer him any words of comfort.

“Oh, that makes sense, though,” Ambry frowned. “I thought it was because he was going into heat. Teal was sort of annoyed with him too. I forgot he’s in on our weird carousel of emotions.”

“It’s not weird,” I rolled my eyes. “We’re perfectly normal, thank you very freaking much. People who aren’t all linked up to their closest friends like this are the weird ones.”

Chapter Twenty

Cobalt

I didn’t tell Odell that of course the three of us knew how to build a nest. While plenty of couples built their nests together, it wasn’t uncommon for the alpha to build a nest for their omega. Plus, our carrier always let us help out whenever it was time to ‘remodel’ the nest. We could’ve done it on our own but it was nice to work with our guys and I kept my trap shut because it felt old-fashioned to say aloud but also because Odie lit up as we all worked together creating the structure that would one day house our future children.

“I think if we survive the whole feast thing without me having too much anxiety I want to try. I know that sounds crazy, doesn’t it?”Odie rambled onto our mating link.“I mean, with Reve just dying like that and a hand following us around. I mean it is following us around. It followed us out to the tower. It hugged my ankle, Co. It hugged me. I think I want to try for a baby if my anxiety holds out.”

I let out a long, slow breath and fought off the urge to ask once again if he was sure, it wasn’t a wraith. Sure, it wasn’t behaving like the wraiths I’d seen before but he and Ambry had both been through enough that having a negative entity form from their trauma wouldn’t surprise me.

“Do you think I’m crazy?”he asked.

“Yes,”Ambry chimed in like a smart ass.

“Stop eavesdropping!”Odie shot back.

“You’re not crazy,” I said aloud.

Ambry was joking around but I couldn’t not defend Odell. Everything inside me reared up for an argument but therewasn’t much bad I was willing to say to him. He was Indigo’s mate and knew Odell longer than I had. The omegas shared a look and laughed as we wrapped another twisted blanket into place.

“I don’t think you’re crazy because you want to try for a baby,” Ambry clarified a few seconds later. “I think you’re crazy that you let the murder spirit hug you.”

“It’s not trying to murder me,” Odell shrugged.

“How do you feel about this?” Ambry asked me.

“We don’t know what it is yet. It’s not a wraith. I’m not sure it’s from a haunted object Reve had because if it is, why is it still here?” I shrugged. “A friendly-ish poltergeist maybe?”
