I could almost hear the hum of our dynamis sing as it called out with an insatiable force. His fingers dug deeper into my thighs as he tried to pull me closer into him.

“Gods, it’s never…” Declan panted, his eyes taking on a vibrant violet hue. “It’s never been like this Lena. You feel so damn incredible.” He groaned, as his rhythm picked up. “I love you.”

“Love you too,” I cried out in between breaths, and my eyes began to flutter closed.

A low rumble vibrated against my ear. “I said eyes on me, Wildfire.”

My eyes flung wide.

“Good girl,” he purred, as I watched in awe as his tattoos and shadows began to glow violet.

He rolled his hips against mine, and we continued to ride the waves as the pressure within me built higher and higher. My nails dug into his chest, as I pushed my hips into him.

Declan pulled my knee up to his chest, the angle allowing him deeper. His fingers tightened around my thigh as he thrust so deeply it hit the most sensitive spot inside of me and sent my release crashing through. He continued rocking me through it until he yelled out my name, finding his own.

Bright indigo shadows burst from around both of us, creating swirls of violet, dark shadows and more flecks of golden embers all around us.

Declan fell to the side of me, tenderly curling me into his body. We both sat silently, watching the display of lights, as our breathing settled.

Suddenly, an excruciating burn rippled against my hand, right over my dynamis tattoo and around my wrist. As I winced from the pain, his features mirrored mine.

We both glanced down to our hands. Encircling our wrists was a glowing golden vine etched into our skin. It twisted and swirled around our wrists, both ends wrapping around our original dynamis tattoo. My eyes widened, and Declan let out a low whistle.

“I’ve heard stories of mates having marks, but I’ve never seen it for myself. It’s beautiful.” I whispered.

Declan rolled over to face me, propping his head up with his arm. He grabbed my marked hand within his as his thumb caressed my wrist. “So are you. Thank you for choosing to love me, broken pieces and all.” His words wrapped around my heart and soul like a warm hug.

“I love you,” I mumbled against his neck. “Thank you for fighting for me, for making me feel worthy. For loving me through all the moments when I don’t even have love for myself.” Sniffling, I did my best to hold in the tears welling behind my eyes.

“Always. I’ll fight for you until my final breath passes through my lips, and even after. Nothing will stop me from protecting you with everything I am.”

Grabbing his face between my palms, I pulled him in for another deep kiss, and we lost ourselves all over again.

Chapter 60

Elena

Cool, salty air brushed over me as I peeled my eyes open. The sun’s rays painted the entire room, and the white curtains around the balcony window danced about in the breeze. I threw my arms over my head, stretching like a cat.

My body had been through muscle aches over the years from all my panic attacks, but this ache was something different. It was a delicate ache, a reminder of all the love that had gone into making it. With a sappy grin, I rolled over to my side in search of the man who put it there.

The side of his bed was cold and empty, and my smile faltered. Had he changed his mind? Did he think this was a mistake? Worry flooded my brain as I clutched the sheets against my chest.

“Morning, love,” a deep voice rumbled in front of me.

Standing in nothing but his briefs was Declan. Entranced, I watched every movement he made as the towel caressed over the rest of his body. Never had I been more envious of a damn towel.

A smirk spread across his lips as his eyes locked onto my peeping gaze. Tossing the towel aside, he strode over to me. I could feel my body sinking back into the bed as it trembled withanticipation. He leapt onto the bed and crawled over my body, caging me underneath.

“You’re drooling, Wildfire,” he whispered into my ear.

Out of reflex, I elbowed him in the gut. He then fell over next to me, laughing so hard his eyes crinkled closed.

Seeing the rare act of this man laughing did unspeakable things to my body and made my heart throb with love. I couldn’t help but laugh alongside him as he curled me into his chest. We lay there contentedly as he caressed his fingertips up and down my back. With his other hand, he brushed the hair out of my face and behind my ear, then gripped my chin, lifting my gaze to meet his forest eyes.

“How are you feeling?”

“Sore, but it’s a delectable kind of sore.” Warmth flooded my cheeks as I bit my bottom lip.
