With a heavy sigh, she turned to face him. “He’s back in Hel, where he belongs. As I said, taken care of.”
Blaze didn’t push for any more answers, but he was pretty sure it had something to do with the Imp Queen.
A creature like her having their backs was indeed a huge advantage.
Still, Blaze wasn’t sure whether it was a good thing or a very, very bad thing.
Finally, the Dean entered the auditorium, and the chatter died as everyone stared at the man in front of them.
“Welcome to the first meeting of the year,” the Dean said, his voice carrying over the whole hall, strong and hard. His eyes scanned the crowd of students. “I’m happy to announce that the first round of the Game is over. The win hasn’t been claimed yet, but there is plenty of time left. Congratulations to those of you who made it through.”
A round of applause and a few hollers and howls went around before the silence settled once more.
“This year’s Game had started off eventful,” the Dean continued. For a moment, he locked eyes with Blaze before moving on quickly.
Andro chuckled. “I’m pretty sure you put the fear of the Gods into the poor man.”
“You’re welcome,” Blaze said.
“Miss Bellthrove will do the honors,” the Dean said, glancing back at his secretary, who immediately hurried to the board on the back wall, as always, a cheery smile curving her lips.
Blaze stopped listening.
“Have you ever seen that bitch not smiling?” Andro asked, wrinkling his nose. “I love a good positive vibe, but she’s too much even for me.”
Blaze and Val both chuckled, exchanging glances.
“She must be high or something,” Jolene said over her shoulder from her seat in front of Blaze.
Alecto sat right next to her, but she didn’t turn to participate in the conversation. Yet Blaze’s gaze traveled to her anyway.
She had pulled her hair up with that vintage clip, letting long strands hang messily around her face. Her fingers were working the pearl necklace around her neck, and Blaze took in the view of the curve of her neck, the soft skin his lips explored last night.
He had been good, making sure he didn’t leave any marks behind. Alecto had enough of them as it was.
The memories from last night still lingered, and Blaze’s cock twitched as his skin tingled, reacting to the memory of her under him, moaning and grinding against his hard body.
Ah, Alecto was as sweet as sin.
And that made things difficult for him this morning when she wasn’t there next to him when he awoke. Alecto had let him sleep in her room, and he wasn’t sure when she got up and left him there.
Blaze waited, lingering in her bed as he caressed the fresh white linen sheets, cold where she’d lain last night. He soaked in her scent, which was everywhere around him.
Yet Alecto never returned.
Which could only mean one thing. It was never going to happen again, or even if it did, Blaze was only allowed access to her body, and that was it.
He could only blame himself, of course. He had fucked up without anyone else’s help, and now he’d pay for it.
Would Alecto’s body be enough though?
It should be.
If it were just an obsession, then the illusion of her belonging to him, even for one night at a time, was more than enough to feed the beast.
Alecto turned her head, as if she could feel him staring.
There wasn’t any malice or hate in that sky-blue gaze, but there wasn’t any warmth either. Blaze could feel the icy grip tightening around his chest, so he averted his gaze first.
