Despite herself, Alecto’s mouth curled up. She glanced at Rogue on her left, his eyes flickering with mischief.
“Do you also know a spell that would turn back time and stop me from making a mistake?”
Rogue smirked. “Sadly, no.”
Alecto smiled, not a happy smile, and turned back to the scene in front of them.
“But there is something Icando for you,” Rogue added. Alecto turned her attention back to him. “Use me, Black. You’re a smart girl.”
For a moment, Alecto considered Rogue’s words, mulling them over in her mind.Use me.He was right. Rogue was bound to them, and he was here to do their bidding. He could help Alecto rectify this situation.
“Are you able to get the memory orb back for me?” Alecto asked.
Rogue’s face broke into a wolfish smile, his canines longer than regular witches’.
“Consider it done.”

“What’s up, bitch?” Val greeted Alecto as she stepped out of the auditorium.
“What do you want, Val?”
Alecto didn’t stop. Val didn’t hesitate, falling into step beside her, and they both made their way through the old foyer to the outside.
“Let’s go get lunch with the rest of the Inner Circle,” Val insisted, looping her arm through Alecto’s and tugging her towards the cafeteria building.
There was no point in arguing, so Alecto let Val lead her through the campus. She wasn’t sure whether her hangover would allow her to stomach anything more than a cup of coffee, but at least she’d get that.
“How is detention going?” Val asked.
Alecto shrugged. “It’s manageable.Dusty.”
Val barked a laugh.
“Rogue mentioned that you’ve been sneezing like crazy.”
“Did he now?”
They rounded the corner, and Val waited until they were alone on the pathway before she spoke again.
“Why haven’t you talked with your dad about it?”
“About what?” Alecto frowned.
Val rolled her eyes. “About getting off detention. I’m sure Daddy can pull a few strings. You don’t have to serve the whole fucking month.”
Alecto hummed. Of course, Val was right. One call would be more than enough to get her off for good, no more libraries and dusty books.
But there would be a price to pay, an extra dinner or event to attend, or worse—going back home for a weekend. Alecto would rather choke on the dust in that library for however long it took her.
Realizing that Val was still waiting for an answer, she shrugged. “It’s not the worst detention ever. I don’t mind.”
Val narrowed her eyes but only nodded. “You’re not thinking about getting back at him for it, are you?”
Ah, so this was what it was all about. Blaze and protecting his ass.
Alecto cracked a smile, meeting Val’s dark gaze.
