“Same can be said about you,” Blaze shot back, and for a moment, he thought Dominic might smash his fist into Blaze’s face.
But the referee’s whistle pierced the air, the ball flashed at the corner of Blaze’s eye, and he glided away towards it.
Of course, Dominic was right on his heels, and before Blaze snatched the ball, Dominic slammed into his side, sending him sideways.
Blaze quickly straightened himself, cursing under his breath, and sped up after Dominic, Andro already gliding through the air on the other side of him.
They exchanged a glance, and Blaze nodded.
Andro sped up, tearing through the wind, and came in close to Dominic from the left as Blaze came in from the right.
They both slammed into Dominic. Dom dropped the ball, letting it fall to the grass beneath them.
Andro maneuvered away, dipping after the ball, and caught it right before it hit the ground. He swiftly moved up and towards the gate, way ahead of everyone else as Blaze stayed behind with Dom.
The crowd cheered, screams and shouts coming from all sides as Andro scored, throwing the ball into the gate before the gatekeeper could even fathom what was happening.
Dominic grunted, whirling around and gliding away, but not before he threw a mean glance at Blaze.
Blaze couldn’t help but smile to himself as Andro glided to him, and they high-fived.
“We keep at it, and we might as well win,” Andro said, panting.
Now, the ball was on Grimswater’s side, so Blaze regrouped, following Valentine as he flew across the field like a bullet, dodging every single player trying to block him.
Soon, Dominic and Raven were on Blaze’s back, sharing a laugh as they tried closing the distance, teasing Blaze.
Blaze swallowed hard, shutting out everything around him and only focusing on gliding through the air towards Valentine.
Valentine was the nicest guy.
And he was also the best player Grimswater had.
Out of nowhere, Francesca whizzed past Valentine, cutting him off, and for a moment, he wavered, having to turn his board to the side to avoid crashing into her.
That was enough for Blaze to press forwards and close the distance between them.
Blaze threw himself at Valentine, making him stumble further, and then the ball slipped, landing straight in Blaze’s hands.
The crowd roared, and Blaze’s heart hammered in his fucking ears as he did a sharp U-turn and whirled around to glide towards the opposite gate.
But of course, Dominic and Raven were both there, just waiting for another chance.
With a laugh, Raven charged at Blaze, making him change his course and glide to the side, where Dominic flew right at Blaze.
Blaze cursed, and dodged Dom just by a mere inch and was back on track, gliding towards the gate.
Andro appeared at the corner of his vision. Before Blaze could give a sign, Raven blocked the view, flying in between them with a wicked smile curling his lips.
“Missed me, pretty boy?”
“It seems like you missed me more,” Blaze snapped back, leaning forwards as he increased his speed. “Can’t stay away, can you?”
Someone came around Blaze from the other side. When he turned, Valentine’s brown face was there, mere inches away. Raven, on the other side, also came closer, squeezing him between them.
There was movement under Blaze. Dominic was gliding right under him.
He winked.
