He wasn’t sure what he was feeling.
But he was sure he was about to lose his shit.
“Something came up,” Blaze said, his words clipped.
Alecto arched an eyebrow. “What came up?”
Blaze glanced at Norse. Holding his gaze, Blaze swooped an arm around Alecto’s waist, pulling her closer to him.
“Inner Circle business. I’ll return her to you in a moment, Fox.”
And then Blaze led Alecto out of the living room, into the corridor, and downstairs into the basement.
When they were finally alone, the party left behind closed doors, Alecto snapped. “Blaze, what the fuck? I had—”
Blaze silenced her with a kiss.
All teeth and tongue and anger.
At first Alecto braced her palms against his chest, as if she were going to push him away. But then she relented.
A moment later, she did peel herself off him and slapped him across the face.
This was rapidly turning into a bad habit of theirs.
Fighting.
Fucking.
Teasing each other until it hurt.
“What are you doing at the party with Norse?” Blaze’s voice was rough.
“I had to bring him here,” Alecto said, her cheeks flushed with anger. Or desire. Or both. “The only way he would come was if I agreed on a date, you idiot.”
Blaze stepped aside as if she’d slapped him again. “What? So you decided to just go on a date with him?”
Alecto glowered at him in silence.
Blaze glowered back at her.
She was the first to break the silence. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
There was no short explanation to this question.
“Val was the one who told me to get Norse to come,” Alecto said. As if that made it better. “It’s for the House. It’s not for my own satisfaction or gain.”
The House was always above everything else. Even its members.
Blaze rubbed his eyes, shaking his head.
“I don’t want him near you,” he said. “I don’t want to see you with him.”
Alecto scoffed, crossing her arms. “Well, too fucking bad, you’re gonna have to see him with me. We’ve got main roles inCarmen, remember?”
Blaze bit his tongue so hard, it hurt.
He considered arguing further. Telling Alecto Norse was no good and that he wanted her to be his and his alone. But instead, he decided it would be smarter to show Alecto who she truly belonged to.
