“Get out,” Blaze said to cut her off.

The temptation to look at her was hard to resist. So Blaze focused his gaze on the black rose garden below his window.

Alecto didn’t move.

“Get out,” Blaze repeated, this time making sure his voice was hard. “I don’t want to hear it. You needed your revenge to make me pay for everything I’ve done to you. That’s fair. But where does it leave us now, hmm? Is it my turn to hurt you because you hurt me?”

He almost turned to look at her, but he stopped himself just in time.

“This will be a never-ending cycle of who’s gonna hurt the other more. Better. Harder.” Blaze swallowed the ball in his throat. “We’re going to ruin each other.”

For a moment, Alecto stayed silent.

Blaze wished she weren’t there.

He also wished she were in his arms.

“It doesn’t have to be that way,” Alecto said, her voice hoarse. “If you truly meant what you said—”

Blaze couldn’t listen anymore.

He got to his feet and stormed towards Alecto, then pushed her down onto the bed.

When he gripped her face in his hand, he made sure it wasn’t gentle nor sweet. He brought his face close to hers, willing as much malice into his gaze and his words as he could muster.

It wasn’t hard.

Blaze was built for it.

“I could have told you anything in that moment. Anyone would have,” he spat. Alecto blinked rapidly, her wild gaze darting between his lips and eyes. “Those words mean nothing.Youmean nothing to me.”

Anger flashed in Alecto’s gaze. “You don’t mean that.”

Blaze chuckled darkly, digging his fingers harder into her skin. When she winced, trying to pull her face away, Blaze’s cock throbbed in his jeans.

Slowly, he dragged his nose along her face, breathing in her sweet scent one last time.

Blaze knew exactly what to say to make sure Alecto hurt as deeply as he did. And to make sure she never came back.

“You are just like your mother, aren’t you?” he whispered against her skin. Alecto’s body went still. “A fucking mortal whore, just looking for a warlock who would take her. Anyone would do, anyone would fit as long as he could fuck you well and be rich enough to give you a future, isn’t that right?”

Alecto braced her arms on his chest and shoved at him hard enough for Blaze to feel.

Chuckling, he let go of her face and rolled off her.

The moment she was free of him, she jumped to her feet and headed for the door.

Blaze watched her go, taking in the view of her back, her lean waist, and those longs legs he wanted wrapped around him tightly for hours.

As she opened the door, Alecto threw over her shoulder, “I don’t need a future. I’m a Black. It’s a given.”

And then she slammed the door so hard, Blaze was sure it woke the whole House.

III. DEADLY LOVERS

The last time Alecto had cried this hard was when her mother had passed away.
