Immediately, Alecto’s body went still, her back straight as a needle.

Blaze blinked, sensing for the very first time that he had said something…wrong. But before he had the time to guess what exactly, Alecto had moved on.

“Maybe we should try to cast the spelltogether,” she said, clearing her throat. “If that doesn’t work, then we’re going to cast a circle. There is a spell and ingredients written out here.”

Blaze nodded, his hands searching for his bones.

They weren’t in his leather jacket’s inner pocket, where he usually kept them.

And neither were they in any other pockets, including in his jeans.

Blaze even checked his boots. But there was nothing.

When he finished the search, Alecto arched a brow. “Are you good there, Leveau?”

“I don’t have my bones with me,” he said, frowning.

That had never happened before.

Blaze always carried his bones. That was one thing he guarded and looked after very intensively because it was precious for him.

“Of course you’d lose your fucking bones.” Alecto scoffed, rolling her eyes. “I’m honestly surprised you haven’t lost your fucking head with how distracted you’ve been.”

Blaze ignored Alecto’s words, going over his pockets again.

Ah, fuck.

He had changed out of his uniform jacket earlier before coming here, and he’d probably forgotten to transfer the bones.

They were most likely lying on his bed, in the inner pocket of his crimson uniform.

“Nothing that can’t be fixed, baby,” Blaze cooed, leaning forward. “We’ve got all sorts of magics available for us. Plenty to choose from.”

This could finally be fun…

Alecto’s eyes darted behind Blaze’s shoulder, looking around the library that was nearly empty now.

The sun had set early, so it was already pitch-black outside, only a few light orbs scattered around the perimeter and tall candles resting on each desk casting a dim light.

When Alecto didn’t answer for a long moment, Blaze almost expected her to reject him and hisidea.

But then her eyes turned to him, and there was determination there.

“What do you have in mind, Leveau? You might want to use your words and be morespecific.”

Ah, sweet, sweet Alecto.

Excitement roared in Blaze’s chest so suddenly, he barely held himself from howling.

The possibilities were endless.

Blaze wasn’t going to suggest death magic or nature magic, of course.

Nuh-uh.

They were better than this. Theyneededsomething better than this.

“I think it’s only appropriate if we, as members of the House of Snakes, use our signature magic tosproutthis baby,” Blaze whispered over Alecto’s lips.
