“Knewwhat?”
Blaze brushed his lips over hers for a mere second and then said words that made Alecto’s knees weak: “That you are perfect for me.”
“Sorry to interrupt your moment”—Andro’s head popped in through the crack in the door door—“but I have to talk to you.”
Blaze turned to his best friend, draping a hand over Alecto’s shoulder. “Me or Alecto?”
“You, or her, or both,” Andro said, walking inside the room. He took a deep breath and exhaled through his mouth. “I am so anxious about Val’s plan. I might have a panic attack.”
“Okay, well, how can we help?” Alecto asked.
Andro braced his palms on his hips, his breathing heavy. “I know we’re supposed to be fearless and ruthless and all that shit, but if we believe your mom’s journal…our parents are fucking serial killers. My mother, my pristine, kind, and super-successful mother…”
Andro shook his head, as if trying to shake off the thought.
Alecto understood Andro more than anyone would. She also had a vision of her mother in her mind that she was finding out now wasn’t very true to the kind of person her mother had been.
It was never easy finding out that the parent you saw as your hero was a villain.
“I know what you mean,” Alecto said, her voice soft. “But we still don’t know the full story yet, so we shouldn’t make any final judgments.”
Andro nodded and then immediately shook his head. “But we can’t trust them. We have Dean Gondalez coming for our House, and we can’t even go to our guardians for help because we can’t trust them!”
“I always found your trust in the alumni bizarre,” Blaze said, tilting his head to the side.
“I find it bizarre that you’re not mortified about finding out that our parents are serial killers,” Andro said, his eyes wide. And then he added, “Potentially.”
“You see, the difference between me and you, Long Legs, is that I always knew my father was a piece of shit,” Blaze said.
Even though Blaze didn’t show any emotion, it still hurt Alecto’s heart to hear him. She wondered how different Blaze would have been if Galliermo weren’t the way he was.
Andro patted Blaze on the shoulder, nodding. “Let’s go join the party, or Val will turn us into frogs.”
They left Alecto’s room and took the stairs down.
“Did that ever actually happen to anyone?” Alecto asked, shouting over the music.
Andro glanced at her over his shoulder and shrugged.
“We better not find out,” he shouted back with a huge smile.
Downstairs, every single corner of their home was packed with students. Some were drunk already, while others were just getting started.
When they entered the living room, there were a few half naked witches dancing on their dining table while making out.
“That will soon turn super fun,” Andro said, pointing a finger at them with a smirk.
Gael approached them then. He acknowledged Alecto and Blaze with a nod and then pulled Andro into a kiss that just kept on going…and going.
Laughing, Alecto and Blaze walked over to the kitchen, where Alecto hoped they would find some drinks. She wasn’t one to enjoy a party like this sober.
In the kitchen they found Jolene and Leigh giggling and sipping on different drinks from shot glasses.
“Alcohol tasting?” Blaze asked, stealing a shot glass right from Jolene’s hand before she should drink it. “Sign me up!”
He gulped the whole shot down and frowned.
“We’ve been mixing some magical drinks,” Jolene said. When Blaze started coughing, she laughed. “They’re much stronger than you’re used to.”
