“He thought you were the guy?The idiot with the tiger tattoo? But what about the whiskers and stripes?”

Sawyer chuckled, backing her against the side of her convertible, his hands landing on her hips.Riley’s breasts rose and fell, and her lips parted as he caged her in.“Sawyer.Tell me what’s going on.How did you get the envelope? And why does it feel like you’re about to kiss me right now?No one’s watching. We don’t have to pretend out here.”

He smiled, his mouth mere inches away from hers.“Who said anything about pretending?”He kissed her then, hard and deep, loving that she didn’t push him away.Quite the opposite, really.Riley’s hands clung to his tee shirt, and she gasped, almost as needy and desperate as he felt.

Sawyer devoured her—tasting, teasing. He poured all of his pent-up emotions from tonight into the kiss. And Riley gave as good as she got—her tongue dueled with his, and his cock was half hard as she pressed against him.Sawyer finally broke off the kiss, resting his forehead against hers. They were both breathing heavily, and it took everything in him not to pick up where they’d just left off.“I told him it was a code word,” he finally explained.“Lucky me that I knew it.Should we go back to your place?”

“Sawyer.”

“To look inside the envelope, kitten.Get your mind out of the gutter,” he joked. But he kissed her again, softer and sweeter this time, skimming his fingers over her cheek.Riley was flustered, and while he’d love to explore that some more, they had work to get done.

Chapter 14

––––––––

“THIS REMINDS ME OFour first date,” Sawyer quipped, watching as Riley emerged from her bedroom in dark jeans and a slim-fitting top, her long hair cascading down over her shoulders. His eyes caught on the sidearm she’d holstered, and Riley grabbed a light jacket, nearly doing a double-take as Sawyer took it and helped her slip it on.

“I wasn’t armed then,” she told him.

“I wouldn’t put anything past you, kitten.”

He paused behind her for a beat, his hands lingering on her shoulders.Riley could feel the heat of him.She took a steadying breath, soaking in his strength and warmth.Even now it felt like he was studying her.Assessing.His gaze had followed her around Coconuts for much of the night, so different than all the times he’d been there with his friends.

Riley’s gaze landed on her kitchen table, where the manila envelope and its contents were spread across. There’d been a sheet of paper with an address and woman’s name, and several small packets of a no-doubt illegal substance.

She crossed the room and could practically feel Sawyer’s eyes on her ass.She tossed him a knowing look over her shoulder, and he grinned.

“You’re not even trying to hide that you’re checking me out,” she sassed.

“Nope,” he agreed as he moved toward her.“I googled the address while you were changing. It’s right by a nightclub across town but seems to be an apartment building.”He held up his phone, showing her the screenshot he’d saved.

“That’s odd since there’s no apartment number, just a street address.”Riley sat down at her laptop, pulling up the information herself. She studied the map for a moment.“The woman’s name.Do you think she’s some type of prostitute?”

“Possibly.Or a strung-out addict. He could be trading drugs for sex.”

“You don’t think he’s the one using?”she asked.
