Logan rocked his head back and looked at Zac. “What the hell do we do now?”
Zac unexpectedly laughed, “Find a way to get over Elle, and for her sake, feed on one of the others. You and I both know Braden can handle himself, you obviously can’t.”
Logan eyed me, and I felt compelled to run into his arms. I watched his lips twist up in a pained expression again. “You’re right.” He was at my side the next second. “I’m sensing our connection. I also have enough brains in my head to realize that I’m fucking everything up by going with this whole Life Blood compulsion I have. Just know, even though I’m feeding off of one of the girls, I’ll be using the mental strength I have to imagine it was you.”
“All right, that’s enough, lover boy,” Zac interrupted. “Get the hell out of here and handle your business.”
“I thought you guys could control the whole sex thing when you feed on them?” I asked Zac after Logan shot out of the area.
“If you’re worried about Logan fucking one of the girls, don’t, because it’s not going to happen.” Zac answered.
“That’s a relief. As much as I don’t want him feeding on anyone else, at least I know that’s all he’s doing.”
“He’s got to get the blood muted. We can’t have a division between us. If we can’t protect you, then what’s it all for?”
“We just need answers,” I responded. Zac was right. What was the point if they wanted to rip each other’s heads off?
Zac laughed. “Like Cole said, we’ll get it all under control.”
“Yeah, let’s hope so before I come up with another dumb idea.”
Chapter Twenty-Five
Waiting for the guys to calm down and get along again was the hardest few weeks of my life. Logan feeding on another vampire did absolutely nothing to quench his desire to keep me as his own, if anything, it made it worse. I wasn’t exactly helping the situation by being in the house, but I did my best to keep my distance from all of them even though I felt myself being pulled to them more than ever before.
Aside from all of the internal chaos in the house, nothing out of the ordinary had happened. There had been no sign of a threat to me since Braden was hurt by that scout, no reason to believe Enzo knew anything about me, and that was why, when I was invited to family visitor day at mom’s rehab, I wanted to go.
“Absolutely not!” Braden said. “You are safe here, why would you risk it?”
“She’s my mom. I want to know how she’s doing. I need to see that she’s making progress. I can’t remember the last time I even saw her sober. Don’t you think this overprotectiveness has gone on long enough?”
Braden sighed in a grumble of frustration, which prompted me to roll my eyes in response. “We can’t risk it. We’re not trying to control you, but this is an absolute no.”
“You understand why we can’t allow this to happen, right?” Cole asked.
“Right,” I took a bite of the sandwich Cole handed me.
“You’re not acting like you understand.”
“Listen, Cole,” I said after I swallowed my food, “I understand perfectly. You all are laying down laws, and I need toabideby them. Can’t have me rebelling against the four overprotective vampires.”
Zac took a seat at the counter next to me and nudged me in my arm playfully, “If you hadn’t noticed by now, we don’t want you hurt. Enzo isn’t the only vampire you need to worry about, you know. We love you. We need you to be safe. It’s a good thing, really.”
“Fine. God forbid I do something that I actually want to do,” I swiveled on my barstool and rested my arm on the slate countertop.
The three vamps—in all their perfection and beauty—stared at each other and kept quiet.
“What’s on the agenda today?” Val asked as she entered the kitchen and winked at me. She could easily see that I was losing my mind being locked up in this house. I had to get out of here somehow, and she was the only female I really trusted to help me.
“How about the beach? The temps are coming up in the afternoons, and I think Elle could use some rejuvenation there.”
Thanks for speaking on my behalf, Cole.
I knew it was best to keep my mouth shut and thoughts to myself.
“Actually, I’d like a girls’ day out,” I looked at Val, begging her with my eyes, and she conceded with a knowing nod.
“That sounds like a great idea.” She plucked a potato chip off my plate, “When do you want to get out of here?”
