“Aria is powerful, but right now?” Val looked at me and then Cole, who sat at the end of my lounge chair. “Apparently, Aria isn’t a threat to innocents, doing what she’s doing.”
“No shit, she’s not a threat,” Braden said, braving the storm and heading back out to us. “She’s just coming into those powers.”
“Val,” I said, “Do you think the seers are selective with what they actually see? I mean, let’s just say that me, the guys, and Aria, are the best bet to kick Lucifer’s ass and we get taken down little by little,” I tried to shuffle my thoughts, “I don’t know, I guess what I’m asking is can seers be altered? Altered by anything?”
“Seers work on a mental level.” She looked at the guys, “Obviously, they’ve all gone off the rails over something that is mentally affecting them, so yes, we can be affected too.”
“It would have to be a very powerful force to be able to keep you from seeing the shit going on with us, right?” I asked.
“Duh,” Val coughed out a laugh. “Luciferis coming after all of us. The prince of fucking darkness. That power can fuck us any which way it wants.”
“Then it’s your job to figure out how we handle this shit,” Cole answered. “I’m not going to be the one Elle blames for coming with the only solution I know to suggest.”
Val eyed all of us sorrowfully, “I don’t think it’s that bad yet. I mean, I know you all can fuck like rabbits all day long and don’t want it hurting or affecting Elle, but—”
“That’s not what anyone is talking about.” Zane decided to step back outside. “I’m listening to all this bullshit while gagging down a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and I’m not liking what I’m hearing.”
“No meat?” I asked as I looked at Zac’s devious smile.
“I wasn’t in the mood to buy five-thousand pounds of steakandgo to the airport.”
“You fucking asshole,” Zane growled. “That’s it. You shitheads stick to your side of the house, and we’ll stick to ours.”
“Everyone, stop it.” I snapped. “God, this is a nightmare.”
“I’ve got to get Aria out of here. She’s causing this by siphoning out all of your bonds unintentionally. This can’t happen, or we’re all dead, and we haven’t even approached Enzo’s stupid ass yet,” Val said, becoming more and more serious.
“You can’t take her.” I felt tears pooling in my eyes. “Val, we’ve hardly had a year with her. She’ll forget us.”
“I’ll make sure we find a way to keep her in contact with you. The Gemini twins were draining your mom’s life and aging Enzo,” Val said. “I didn’t put any of it together until now, but it’s happening and happening fast.”
“I’d love to see Enzo forced to wear glasses due to poor vision,” Zac said.
“And walking with a fucking cane,” Logan came around with a laugh. “Being a wrinkled-up piece of evil shit is exactly what his vain ass needs.”
“You’re right on that account,” Val said. “The humbler and more desperate he is, the better your chances are of getting him to become your ally.”
“I still don’t trust that prophecy,” Cole stated.
“And for the first time in a month, I can agree with the vampire,” Zane answered.
“No one gives a fuck if you agree with thevampire,” Zac taunted. “Especially all of the fucking vampires around here.”
This feud was, in fact, getting worse by the second, and I knew deep down I was going to have to give my baby girl to Val so we could all go back to normal. This wasn’t healthy for anyone, especially Aria. She needed safety and stability, and this was definitely not the place to get it.
Wait.
“Val,” I turned my attention back to her. “Is it draining us or just destroying the bond to the point where I’m starting to hate all of these guys right now? I’m not giving Aria up if it’s only because these fuckers can’t get along.”
“It’s destroying the bond,” she looked at me as if I were braindead. “Or causing brain damage.”
“Shit,” I shook my head, trying to clear a sudden fog that was overwhelming me. “Fuck, I’m tired and just want to sleep now,” I admitted.
“She’s draining your energy,” Val said flatly. “Her subconscious mind is listening to us. Her inner-self will take everything if I don’t get her somewhere safe. None of you can be around her. I know you don’t want to be away from her, but all of you being around each other is the worst thing for her. I shouldn’t have to beg you to do what’s right for Aria, and you know it.”
“Then we get untraceable phones and Facetime,” Zane said. “Aria will want to see her family, especially her mother. She won’t understand whatever lie we toss her way as to why she had to be taken from us.”
“I agree,” I said. “I don’t want her sad or hurt over this. I absolutely don’t want her to think she’s being abandoned.”
