Jax’s brows pinch. “You’re that skeptical of this woman?”

“I am.”

Linc puts the leftovers in the fridge. “Well, I hope, for Gigi’s sake, he doesn’t find anything.”

I finish wiping down the counters. “I hope so, too.”

Chapter Seventy-Three

Gigi

The days leading up to the wedding are passing by so quickly. I went in for my last dress fitting on my lunch break today and as I stood looking in the mirror, knowing we’re only two weeks away now, I felt a sort of sadness come over me. Once Marcus and I walk down the aisle, we start toward the end. Sometimes things between us seem so real, so tangible, but he hasn’t spoken about what will happen after we pull this off.

I’m sitting at my desk in my small office when Samuel knocks on the open door.

“Hey, Sam Sam.”

“Boss lady.”

“What can I do for you?” I motion for him to sit in the chair across from me.

“I wanted to make sure everything is good to go for when you go on leave.”

“Should be. I put an order in this morning, so shelves should be stocked. Schedules are done through the New Year. Is there anything else I can do to make it easier for you?”

He shakes his head. “I don’t think so.”

I close my laptop and lean forward. “I wanted to ask you a question.”

“Shoot.”

“You’ve been my assistant for a while now. How would you feel about a General Manager position?”

“General Manager?”

“Yeah, say I want to step back, maybe just stick with my clients, maybe just move into solely an owner role. Would you feel comfortable running this place?”

He thinks for a moment, then his eyes brighten. “Does it pay well?”

“I’d make sure of it.”

“Yeah, I think I could do it.”

I tap the desk. “Great. Run this place like it’s your own while I’m gone, and we’ll have a deeper discussion when I get back.”

“Sounds good.” He sits a bit taller. I love watching people feel pride in themselves. “Is everything planned for your pre-wedding getaway?”

“Marcus says it is. All I know is we’re tying the knot on our own before the circus his dad set up. He still won’t tell me where we’re going.”

He grins. “I love that he’s so good at surprises and you’re so impatient. You two were made for each other.”

“If you say so.” He stands from his chair as I finish speaking. “Let me know if you need anything, okay?”

“Will do, boss.”
