“No, I was waiting on you. We can order something when you get here.”
“Or we could go somewhere. It isn’t too late.”
“I don’t really want to go out. Just come home and we can eat here.”
I lean my head against the headrest. “Lewis, we never go out, and I finally got out of work at a decent time. It would really make me happy if we could go get dinner and maybe watch the end of the game.”
“I don’t want to go out.”
I let out a sigh. It’s useless to try to persuade him. “Okay.”
“If you want to go out, call Audrey or Melonie.”
“Alright. I’ll see what everyone’s up to, and I’ll text you if I meet up with them.”
“Sounds good, babe.”
“Okay. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Later.”
He disconnects the call and I sit for a moment before bringing up Marcus’ number. He answers after a couple rings.
“Hey, Gigi.”
“You didn’t call me princess.”
He chuckles. “Sorry, I forgot. You can hang up, call me back, and I’ll do better.”
I smile as I hang up, then hit call again.
“Hey, princess.”
“Hi, prince.”
“Happy?”
“Yes, that was much better.” I use a playful tone. He sounds tired.
“Glad you approve. What’s up?”
“Wanted to see what you’re doing. I’m done with work, and Lewis just wants to sit at home.”
“I’m having a drink on the couch. Work sucked. You’re welcome to come over here, but I’m not up for going anywhere, either.”
“Are you watching the game?”
“Of course.”
“Is it okay if I come over?”
“Gigi, you know the answer to that.”
I smile. “Okay, I’ll see you in a few.”
“Drive safe.”
“Will do.”
