“I just want everything to go well for her. She’s doing so much to help me. I want her to feel special.”

Melonie places her hand on my arm. “Don’t worry, she will. I mean it when I say it, Marcus, this is absolutely perfect.”

“If you say so, I trust you.”

We finish our drinks, talking about Mills and Adam. I glance down at my watch and realize I need to get back to the office.

“I need to get back. Let’s organize dinner after we get back next week. I miss the kids.”

Audrey stands. “Sounds good. Just have fun with this, Marcus.”

“Thank you both again for helping with it all.”

“We’re happy to do it. I can’t wait to see the pictures!”

“And make sure you smile in them,” Audrey teases.

“I will.”

We walk out and start going our separate ways when I hear Melonie yell, “You got this, big guy!”

I look at the binder in my hands and hope that I do.

Chapter Forty-Six

Marcus

“You have to tell me where we are going! I need to know what to pack!”

“Pack for warm weather. Bring sneakers. Bring a nice dress.”

“Ugh, you’re killin’ me smalls.”

We’re standing in the kitchen, doing the dishes from dinner like we do most evenings. She washes, I dry, and we usually talk about our day or she tells me wild stories from work. It’s relaxing, and I like hearing her talk.

“You’ll find out where we’re going in the morning at the airport.”

“Do I need a bathing suit?”

“You could bring one.” Damn it, now I’m imagining her in a bikini.

“Last one.” She hands me a fork. I dry it off and hand her the towel to dry her hands. “Well, I guess I’ll finish packing for the mystery trip.” She rolls her eyes.

I turn toward her, lifting her chin so she looks at me. “Stop being impatient, princess.”

She looks up at me. “Easier said than done, prince.”

I lean down and kiss her cheek. “Go pack.”

She raises on her tiptoes, brushing her lips at the corner of my mouth. Her eyes open and look into mine. “I’m excited for this weekend.”

I need to get out of this kitchen before I lay her out on the island beside us. “Me, too. Now go.” I nod toward her room.

She grins, then walks to her room. Once I hear Harry Styles start to play, I release an uneven breath and adjust my dick in my pants.

I barely slept last night. Now I’m pouring my second cup of coffee as Gigi comes into the kitchen, yawning, holding Ethel. She sets the cat down, placing food in her dish. I grab a mug from the cabinet and pour her a cup from the carafe.

She opens the fridge for her almond milk. “Thank you. I barely slept last night. I always get too excited for trips.”
