Then her hand is in mine and we’re sharing vows with love and flowers around us.
When it’s time to exchange wedding bands, I slip mine on her finger, then hold out my hand for her to put mine on.
“Look,” she whispers for my ears only and tilts the band so I can read the inscription. Inside the ring are the words,an unforgettable, endless love. And then I’ve got tears running down my face that matches hers.
My mother makes a little sound, then my dad does, and I’m overwhelmed by the emotions of the day, of this moment. I pull Aspen into my arms as the official announces us as married and I kiss her, promising her with this kiss that ours will definitely be an unforgettable, endless love.
Epilogue
Aspen
Eight years ago yesterday was the day I married Wilder and today we’re leaving, moving out of the cabin we’ve called home since then. I have to admit I’m experiencing some bittersweet emotions.
Here in this small, cozy space is where we began our lives as a married couple. Here is where we celebrated wins, where we grieved losses, and where we discovered in wonder that we were expecting our now five-year-old son, Gavin, named after his grandfather.
We’re not moving far and we’re still on ranch land. We’re moving to a house that we’ve been building since the day we got married. Neither one of us wanted to go into debt to build a home since we both have strong feelings about how important it is to have a home that’s fully ours.
I never wanted to lose another home because of finances the way I did my family home and Wilder didn’t want that either. So we worked hard and we’ve made that happen. And fuck it all, Ican’t seem to stop…I lean over another open box for a tissue to dab my eyes.
In the middle of me wiping away tears, the front door swings wide and Wilder strides in. Hot on his heels is our son.
“Mommy’s upset,” Gavin says rushing to hug me.
I wrap my arms around his warm little body. “I’m okay, honey. Just a little sad that we’re leaving the cabin.”
Gavin draws back and puts his hand on top of my head. “It’s okay, Mommy. Daddy will make you happy.”
“He will definitely make Mommy happy. Come here, you two.” Wilder wraps us both in his arms and hugs us tightly.
“It’s okay, honey,” Wilder says with his lips against my ears. “We’re taking all the memories with us, and we’ll make more.”
“This place is just so cozy,” I say with a sniff.
“And small,” Gavin says, trying to be helpful.
“Knock, knock!” My sister pokes her head through the open door.
“Aunt ‘Zona!” Gavin shrieks, leaving me to throw himself at her.
She scoops him up. “How’s my favorite nephew?”
Gavin puts a hand on his stomach, “I’m craving a cookie.”
She laughs, then says, “As your favorite aunt, I’ll have to see what I can do about that. Can I take him?” she asks, looking over at us. “I’ll meet you over at the new house.”
Once they’re gone, Wilder pulls me onto his lap and strokes the back of my head.
I swat his arm when I feel his cock growing harder under me. “You’re supposed to be comforting me.”
“I can make you comfortable.Socomfortable.”
I stand and he leaps up. “Come here, honey. Let me ease your mind.”
I put my hands on my hips. “Seriously, Wilder?”
“Seriously.”
I make a big production of looking down at my watch. “I don’t know. I figure we’ve got about fifteen minutes before one of your brothers returns to get another load of boxes.” When I glance back at my husband, he’s out of his pants and underwear and holding his arms open wide.
