Chapter 51

Bethany

Mondays suck.

Well, Mondays usually suck, but Miles had a heat spike this morning, which means I got to wake up with my omega's head between my thighs as Kieran knotted him from behind. Then Miles uh…massaged his…essenceinto me.

Is it weird that I liked it?

Given Miles' heat spikes, it's good timing that they just had their last day of school and are now off for the summer. Kierangraciouslyoffered to work from home so he'd be available if the need for a knot arises.

Such a giver.

When Brody and I exit the elevator to the twenty-fourth floor, coffees in hand, we're met by a lobby of waiting people. Brody winces, putting his head down as we move towards the back offices. This single floor is easily three times the size of our old building. "Shit. I forgot about interviews."

My brows shoot up. "Interviews? You only posted the listing on Friday."

"Yes, formore lawyers like Matteo said, and then for a few more omega…advocate…specialists? Shit, I have to come up with an actual job title."

"What did you post on the listing?"

"I put…" he winces again, "specialized omega helper."

I choke on a laugh, nearly spewing coffee out of my nose. "What the hell does that evenmean?"

"I don'tknow," his head falls back, "everything was crazy, my mind was reeling from the fact that Matteo fucking De Lucca just bankrolled my whole operation, and you were sad, and I just made something up."

"Is the job description accurate at least?" I smirk at him over my coffee cup.

"Yes, that, at least, I could do." He chuckles lightly. "By the way, you're with me today."

"Oh? No meetings?"

"Tons of meetings. You'll be interviewing them with me."

"Me?" I can't hold back my surprise. I don't have any sort of experience in law, let alone an inkling on how to interview someone. "Surely Jeremiah would be a better choice for that?"

We enter Brody's office and we put our stuff down. "It's not about qualifications, beautiful girl. I'm lucky enough to have already known the guys I hired on after I started the firm, but we're growing and this is new territory for me. Seeing how they react to you, an omega, in the interview will tell me everything I need to know about whether or not they'll be a good fit here. Plus, you're practically HR so they'll have to get used to you being farther up in the chain of command."

I might be channeling Miles at the moment, because an idea pops into my head. "If you're looking at how they react to an omega…then I have an even better idea for you."

By the time I've told Brody my plan and he's outlined the questions I need to ask, I feel like I seem fairly confident.

"Tell me,Mr. Finch, why do you want to work at Omegas First Law Firm?" I ask, drumming my nails on the table like I have little patience for frivolous answers.

The alpha sitting across the desk from me looks between Brody and me, his mouth gaping open once before snapping closed. "I'm sorry, I thought Mr. Brody Benson was the lawyer…?"

Brody shifts in his small seat he pulled up to the large, cushioned office chair he has me sitting in. "I am,andI don't see how that's relevant." There's a warning in his tone, and his arms cross, leveling him with a glare.

"Oh, um…is she qualified to be conducting this interview?" It might be one thing if he was directing these questionsatme. But no, he's directing them all to Brody, like I'm not even here.

"Shehas a name, andshesays this interview is over." My voice is calm and reasonable. The epitome of grace.

Well, that got his attention. He scoffs. He fuckingscoffsat me.

"With all due respect, sweetheart—"

A growl rips out of Brody's chest and the man pales. I give him my best customer service smile.
