Yasmin never met her fated mate, and Percy’s fated mate had already died, so they didn’t have to worry about waiting. That was fortunate for them. It’s not an easy or pain-free process. You are literally tearing a reluctant bond apart in the process. If two fated mates meet and there is a rejection, as long as it’s accepted by both of them, they can move on right away. If it’s not accepted, they will have to wait until the next full moon to claim a chosen mate.

When the full moon passed and I still wasn’t marked, Gemma realized both of us were really fated mates and Lachlan hadn’t accidently marked another. They still can’t believe that their insatiable Alpha is just being patient and not rushing to claim me and mark me.

“I can’t understand you two,” Yasmin shakes her head. “I know it’s crass and rude of me to bring this up, but every girl at the brothel knows how needy the Alpha can be. The fact that he is waiting until you are ready is fascinating to me.”

Val growls in my head at the reminder that Lachlan shared a bed with our friend, and most other girls she worked with. I have accepted it for what it is. I don’t like it, but he has been faithful since we came back to the day of our marriage. It’s not Yasmin or any other woman’s fault that our husband was a philanderer before me.

“Yes. It’s so sweet the fuckboy is keeping it in his pants and respecting his wife like he should be,” Cedric rolls his eyes. He probably thought Yasmin’s statement would bother me and is speaking up in my defense. I’m not offended. Just a little stung by the reminder. “Why did you ask about the brothel women, Ela?” he asked, pushing my hair behind my shoulder. “Was there a reason?”

“Well,” I bit my lip nervously. “I was thinking about speaking with Lady Vera soon if I could. I have something I wanted to run by her.” Warn her about, really, but I don’t want to alarm Cedric or Yasmin if it doesn’t happen.

“Want to go see her?” Yasmin asked. “She liked you. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind meeting you. We can go….oh.” She makes a face. “I don’t think the Alpha will let you go.”

I grimace. “I don’t think so either.” He is very protective of me. He always tries to be with me if I try to leave the packhouse for any reason, and when he can’t, he sends my entire guard and even some extra warriors to keep me safe.

“I don’t think Percy will either. He doesn’t want me going back to the brothel for anything.”

“I’m not supposed to leave the castle without my guard anyway. It’s a Luna rule.” Lachlan drilled it into me when I tried to take a swim with just Cedric once, without Cherum or any of the other guards coming with me, since they were in a training session with Lachlan.

“Do we need their permission?” Cedric smirks with that troublesome glint in his eye. That means he is thinking of something that is going to make my husband very mad. “You are both grown women. And you,Luna, are not marked yet. Don't you need to bare his mark before you can be fully considered Luna? That sounds like an exception to the rule.”

“Still,” Yasmin giggles, “She commands her own guard. I think finding a loophole isn’t going to make Cherum okay with her breaking the rule.”

“Rules were made to be broken,” Cedric sat up straighter. “Just this once. It will be fun. We can disguise you so no one recognizes you. No one will recognize you anyway without half the pack’s warriors following you around anyway. Don’t you think it would be fun to sneak around, acting like a normal pack member for once?”

Yasmin lifts her brows, her mouth going wide, like she is about to disagree, but then a slow grin replaces her shock, making her eyes crinkle in the corners. “It would be fun. I do miss some of my friends.”

I shift nervously in my seat. “Lachlan won’t like it.”

“So?” Cedric scoffs. “He goes out by himself. Why can't you? It’s not like you will be on your own anyway. I’ll be with you.”

I bite my lips together. “You’re a bad influence,” I say, trying not to smile.

“You love me being the little devil sitting on your shoulder. You know you want to go.”

I do. This would be my only chance to warn Lady Vera too. Lachlan would want to know why, and so would Cherum. If I told them what I was expecting of my uncle, that he was probably sending a team to check and see if I was pregnant soon, or if I revealed how that horrible man would be checking me, both of them would explode. Cherum would slaughter my uncle’s men. Lachlan may even do away with the treaty and start another war.

He can’t do that yet. In several months, he will need that treaty. He will need my uncle’s support and soldiers.

As Luna, if that’s truly what I am now, meeting Lady Vera myself without involving my husband or Delta is the best decision for the pack. I need to keep the pack safe in the best ways I can.

“I don’t want to make them angry,”Val whimpers.

“I don’t either, but we still should do this. For those women and for the pack.”

“Okay,”Val sighed, “You will have to calm him down when he finds out. Cedric might be fish food.”Her voice lifts with humor at the end of that sentence.

“We can do it,”I laughed softly back at her, “We can calm him down and save our friend from being fed to the ocean life.”

“Let’s do it,” I told Cedric, suddenly not so pessimistic. I would be worried about Lachlan’s anger and wrath before in my first life, but now I trust him enough to know he would never hurt me. He might hurt Cedric, but we can deal with that. He will listen to me.

“Seriously?” Yasmin claps her hands gleefully. “This will be so fun. I have the perfect wig for you.”

“Wig?” I looked at her in confusion.

“Yes silly,” she giggles. “We’re going in disguise, remember.”
