Cedric smiled teasingly, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and bringing her grumpily pouting frame in for a side hug. “I was just teasing you. I appreciate ahardworking woman.”
She elbows him in the side, making him groan and hug his abdomen. “I would appreciate you keeping your appreciation to yourself.”
“No promises,” Cedric laughs.
Yasmin growls, making Cedric laugh more. “I’m trying to have a serious talk with you and you’re making jokes. Are you doing the same to the Gamma? He may be trying to apologize or talk things through with you, but if you are treating him with sarcasm and rude comments like you are me, then it's just as much your fault as it is his that you can’t work through your problems to be mates.”
The humor started to drain out of Cedric’s expression. “I told you, it doesn’t matter. I don’t think he will change and I don’t want to be tied to someone who won’t trust me.”
“So you are the one clinging to your own prejudices and opinions?” Yasmin narrowed her eyes. “You don’t know what his true feelings are or the reasons behind them until you talk to him. He may have reasons for his distrust, just like you do.”
“Like Lachlan,” I murmured. I smiled sadly, then rested my hand on his arm. “I had a horrible misunderstanding with Lachlan my first morning here. I thought it was irreparable, the damage that incident caused, but after hearing his reasons for his reaction, and then seeing the changes in him, I know he has changed. I wouldn’t be sneaking out with the two of you now if I didn’t think he had truly changed. I know that even when he finds out about this, he would never hurt me. He might get angry, but he will most likely take it out on you and not me,” I smirked. “Don’t worry, though. I’m also sure that I can turn his focus back on me quite easily and we won’t need to pull fish hooks out of your limbs later.”
Yasmin giggles. “If that does happen, I know a certain Gamma for sure will seek revenge for you.”
Cedric scoffs. “Sure he would.”
I grip his hand, making him look down at me. “Both Yasmin and I can see how much Meldec already cares about you. Why not just consider giving him an opportunity to explain himself? I just don’t want you to have any regrets, and I know Yasmin doesn’t either.”
“No I don’t. You are one of our most precious friends. We want you to be happy. We both have our mates. I want you to have yours too.”
“And if it doesn’t work out? If the Gamma and I are still incompatible?” Cedric looks unsure and vulnerable, making my heart go out to him.
“Then we will be there to kick his butt,” I said firmly.
“And then cheer you up,” Yasmin adds.
“Thehardway?” Cedric teased, his crooked smirk returning to his face, making both of us laugh, knowing he was only joking. His preferences in that department are not us, no matter what wigs or accessories we wear.
“Sure,” I laughed.
“I know a club forthatinclination,” Yasmin giggles. “We can sneak out again and go together.”
“Now we’re talking,” Cedric grins, wrapping his arms around both our shoulders as we walked through the outskirts of town, headed for the brothel.

Lachlan POV
Killian is pacing back and forth in my mind, restless for some reason, making it hard to concentrate on this meeting. We are working out the final details of the festival this weekend, and I want it to be absolutely perfect. I wish he would calm down and let me focus.
“I need to see our mate in order to calm down, jerkface. Hurry this up and go find her.”
“She's fine,”I sighed internally. “That annoying merman is with her.”He likes to try and get a rise out of me, but he is diligent about keeping her safe. I saw a visiting merchant drunkenly run into her in the packhouse’s courtyard and before I could even react, Cedric had him by his throat against the wall, forcing him to apologize. I ended up being glad he reacted instead of me, because Lira was upset with him about it for the rest of the night. She called it overkill when I thought it wasn’t enough.
“Can we move this along?” Meldec surprised me, saying the same thing as my Lycan in my head. “This is getting too drawn out. We assigned the security aspects and have the routes covered. Am I needed any more?” Meldec is drumming his fingers impatiently on the table, looking anxious, which is very unlike him.
“What got in your drawers today?” Cherum said sarcastically. “This is a surprise for the Luna. Of course, we want it to be perfect.”
Meldec runs his hand through his hair, then groans. “I have this urge to go find my….to go find….I just need to look for someone, okay?”
We all know, but Meldec still has trouble admitting that Cedric is his mate. They have yet to claim each other too. I bet his Lycan gets anxious about being away from him as he’s still unmated. Maybe that’s why Killian is restless too.
“I’m restless because I can’t feel her close by like normal,”Killian growls at me. “I can usually feel her faintly when she is near, but I don’t feel her at all right now. The pull is gone.”
I furrow my brows, concerned now since Lira is supposed to be where Cedric is. I can't feel the bond yet, but my Lycan usually can, and Meldec, even if he won’t admit it, can surely feel his bond with Cedric. If both Killian and Meldec are anxious, there must be a reason.
“Nilo will finish this meeting out. Mel, come with me.”
