Lachlan POV

I watched as my wife, my mate, threw herself into the arms of another man. Cedric caught her, cradling her head with his hands, whispering words into her ear until her head went slack against his chest.

“She was having another anxiety attack,”Killian whimpers, “And she wanted him and not us.”

I narrowed my eyes at the man still standing on the other side of my horse. He was watching Cedric and Lira with an amused smirk on his face. Did she panic because of him? Did he hurt her in some way in the past? She clearly remembered him, but if remembering him caused her to react like that, what was she remembering exactly?

"My mate,"Killian whimpers, feeling tiny bursts of her anxiety and fear in his growing bond with her. I want to feel it too. Even right now, with her not alright, I want to be able to feel her directly too, not just feeling my lycan's reactions to feeling their bond.

When I look back at Lira and her siren guardian, he has her asleep in his arms, holding her lack body tightly. He glared accusingly at me, distrust radiating off him in strong waves. He thinks I did something to hurt her again.

That hurts. Almost as bad as it hurts to see my wife seek his comfort and not mine.

“We’ll talk at the castle,” he stated coldly before turning to climb back up the hill with my mate in his arms, passing a confused Meldec on the way. Meldec looks at me with worry, then then chooses to follow his mate. Good. Lira will have more protection on her way home.

She was in my arms just moments ago, on her way home with me. We were so close to becoming one. The thought of being accepted and having the chance to finally mark her and end all these stipulations on the contract with her father was so near. She trusted me to take that leap with me, but she still chose another man over me in her time of need.

It hurts.

“She was never one for the dramatics,” the man, Isaac, said. “She was always a quiet and submissive little thing, hiding under her mother’s skirts when her mother didn’t have a man under them.”

A low growl rumbles through my chest in warning. “That is my wife’s mother you are speaking about. I would advise that you refrain from upsetting me any further than you already have.”

“My apologies, Alpha,” he bows his head respectfully, though the intent behind his actions feels more perverse. “It was just nice to see that married life suits our Alpha’s little niece. She seemed…..well accustomed to the role.”

He’s making fun of us and the fact my wife leapt into the arms of another man the moment she could. Killian is furious, snarling inside my head. If I could, I would put this man in his place right here and now. I might do it anyway if he pushes me any further. Treaty and alliance be damned.

“My wife is none of your concern,” I replied in a level voice, trying to maintain my composure.

“That is not entirely true, Alpha. See, our Alpha Wayne sent us not only to deliver this filthytraitor,” he sneered, looking at Leona briefly, “back to you. He wants to be informed about his niece’s wellbeing and…..her current medical state as well. Being that she was always a little thing, a bit weaker than she should be, he wanted to make sure she could keep up with all herwifely dutiesso as to not dishonor our Alpha.”

“Let’s just bury him and the rest of the crew and claim they got lost at sea,”Killian snarls in my head.

It’s a tempting idea. Isaac's arrogant smirk slips off his face the longer I stare at him, pushing my aura out intentionally, reminding him that though he may be a visiting warrior from a pack I am under an alliance with, I could still end him easily. His Alpha is a long distance from here, and my warriors are loyal to a fault. No one would say otherwise if I claimed these men never made it to my shores.

After a long, looming minute in my menacing presence, this bulking warrior is shifting on his feet, looking ready to piss his pants and go hide under his own mother’s skirts.

I wonder how well he really knows my mate, and why she seemed so distressed upon seeing him. When she said his name, it was like she was seeing a ghost from her past. She looked at all of them that way. I thought there might have been a history between this man and my wife at first, but now maybe it was something more sinister….

Or maybe she remembers her from her first life.

She knew her uncle would send men to check on her. She didn’t tell me how she knew exactly, but I already figured out it was because of our first lives. This man seems very familiar with my wife even now, though. That means he knew her back in her uncle’s pack before coming here.

How? Did they have a history?

After seeing her throw herself at Cedric to get away from this situation, and the jealousy that caused me, I can’t help but let my mind wander into the worst of scenarios. I need to ask Lira. I don’t know how to, but I need to find a way to ask her what happened in her uncle’s pack before I decide on what to do about these men.

I looked at the mess of Leona lying broken on the dock, staring up at me with those pathetic pleading eyes.

If she was hoping I would take pity on her after she ran away to another pack and put the blame on my wife, she was wrong. I know what she did to Yasmin, and I feel nothing but disgust for the woman.

“What would you have me do with her?” I asked the man, still cowering beside me. “If she wishes to be in your pack, I have no objections about it. Mywifedid not outright banish her, but she harmed another woman in our pack and was reprimanded by her Luna for it. If she has strife with her Luna, then she has it with me as well, and I do not care to claim such a disloyal pack member.”

“NO!” Leona yelled, pulling her body along the planks of the dock. I resisted the urge to wince seeing the cuffs around her wrist preventing her from healing. “I…I have no issues with…with the…..theLuna,” she muttered the title like it hurt her to do so. “I want to stay here. Please, Lanny, don’t send me back.”

Isaac smirks again when Leona calls me that dreadful nickname. I never liked hearing it. She came up with it on her own and insisted on using it. “She claimed you both were lovers,” Isaac stated, making me roll my eyes.
