Whining, I snuggle into the warmth again, keeping my eyes closed and trying to fall back to sleep.
“How long have you been sleeping?” Brix asks with his hand still on my back.
The heat from his hand is transferring into my skin, making me relax even more. Both of them are heat machines, and I absolutely love it. It keeps me warm when I have their hands on me.
“Since eleven. I woke up a couple of hours ago when she was sitting on the ground, her head on the couch fast asleep. I moved her to lay on my chest and have just been here since,” Elijah explains.
What is he talking about? I didn’t fall asleep. I know for a fact he didn’t move me. I’m coloring with Tiggy on the ground as he sleeps, right?
But the more I think about it, the more I realize I’m not.
“Shhh, you’re okay,” Brix whispers, his hand running soothing circles along my back. “You’re safe. We’ve got you.”
“No, Papa,” I mumble. “No wakey.”
“You need to wake up to eat, and so we can talk.”
My nose wrinkles up. “No talkie. Just sleepies.”
Whatever I’m lying on starts to move as a chuckle fills my ears.
“Shh, no moves. Just sleepies,” I grumble, gently tapping next to my face. “Bad.”
“Come on, precious.” My body moves as the person talks.
I open my eyes slightly to see Elijah sitting on the couch, smiling at me. Brix is holding me close to his body as he moves.
“Time to wake up. I’ve got a surprise for you,” he whispers into my ear. “But you have to wake up for it.”
Pulling away from his chest, I look into his eyes, sleep still evident on my face. I’m so tired with my eyes barely open.
“Hmm?” I ask, waiting for him to talk.
“I’ve got you some candy and a friend for Tiggy.”
I clap my hands as he continues to hold me. “Show?”
Brix smiles at me, placing me on the couch where Elijah and, seemingly I, were asleep. My back is against the corner as I stare at him, waiting to be shown the friend he got Tiggy and me. What could it possibly be?
I watch as he grabs his bag, which is sitting on the ground near the couch, and opens it. I push myself forward, wanting to peek into it, but I can’t. Though, that doesn’t stop me from trying.
Elijah holds onto my shoulders as I tumble forward. “Wow, little bit. How about you sit back on the couch and wait for Papa to give you the surprise.”
Pouting, I do as I’m told and not so patiently wait for Brix to hand me the present. Squealing as he takes out a baby tiger stuffie and hands it to me, I hug it to my chest and hold it tight.
“I love it!” I yell, rubbing my face against it.
“I’m glad. I thought you and Tiggy could use a friend. And she was calling my name, begging me to buy her and bring her home to you two as I walked by the gift shop.” Brix kisses the top of my head.
“Thank you!” I smile.
Grabbing my phone, I turn it on to take a picture of Tiggy but stop when I see several more recent texts from Mateo and Lainey. I quickly turn my phone off and smile up at them.
“Are you okay?” Elijah asks.
I nod. “Yep, just realized I didn’t have anyone to send a picture of my stuffies,” I whisper toward the end, realizing how sad that is.
“Aww, little bit,” Daddy cups my face. “Don’t have any Little friends?”
