My lips curve up and I feel Kenni’s gaze on me, but I’m focused on Skyye. Somehow. “They crack each other up.”

I waggle my brows, and Skyye laughs as she shakes her head. “You’re a dork.”

“You love me!” I yell toward her as she heads off the ice.

“I do. Love you, miss you, mean it,” she calls back.

God, I love that kid. I call it out to her, and she waves before she enters the locker room. I feel Kenni’s gaze on me, and when I look over, her bright blues are set on me. “That was the worst joke ever, but I want more.”

I bark out a laugh, leaning on my elbows as I take her in. Fuck, she’s so pretty. “Sorry, dad jokes are only for the kids.”

She pouts. “Come on, surely I can be the exception.”

I shake my head. “Nope. I’ll make you laugh another way.”

Her eyes sparkle, and she shuts down her laptop, leaning on it. Her elbows are tucked in close, making her tits spill over the top of her blouse. I swallow as I hold her gaze. Her lips curve up in a saucy little grin. “Oh yeah? How?”

I lean in, knowing I shouldn’t, but fuck, I can’t help myself. “Like this.” Holding her gaze, I run a finger along the curve of her hand. She takes a sharp breath, and everything turns to lava inside me. “Are you a microwave?”

She raises her brows, and I flash her a panty-dropping grin. “Because I just felt something warm and ready in under a minute when you were checking me out earlier.”

Her jaw drops, and I pat her hand. “Thanks for taking my girl out. Have fun.”

And then I force myself to walk away. Her laughter follows me, deep, throaty, and a little crazy-sounding, but damn if I don’t love it. I know I need to find every really bad pickup line there ever was, because that laugh…

Yeah, it’s mine.

CHAPTER

TWENTY

Kenni

“I don’t know how much longer I can stay there.”

Sadie gives me a wary look as she cringes. Her brown hair is in three pigtails, nine thousand barrettes, and she’s wearing bright-blue eyeshadow with bright-blue lipstick while she nurses a glass of wine as if she doesn’t belong in the circus.

Alongside me. I’m the pink bozo to her blue bozo.

“Listen, I didn’t like the idea of you staying there anyway. He’s so possessive over her, it’s wild.” She swallows a sip. “I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love when Matt gets all caveman on me, but he doesn’t sound like a little bitch when he does it.”

I snort, but she’s right. Nyle whines, which is fucking annoying. “He got mad we went to lunch without him after we had breakfast together. He told me I’m stealing her away all the time.”

She shakes her head, her pigtails whipping across her face. “I know Missy isn’t just sitting there.”

“Oh no, she gets all pissy. But I swear it’s like foreplay, becausethen they’re banging like rabbits.” I shudder. “I’ve seen entirely too much of Nyle’s ass.”

Sadie tries to hold in her laughter but fails, almost falling out of her chair. Of course, I’m laughing too because I can’t help myself. The back door opens, and we look up to find Matt looking at us like we’re deranged clowns.

Which I guess we are.

“Wow, I didn’t know the circus was in town,” he teases as he comes over to kiss the top of my head and then his wife’s lips. “But let me tell you, you two are gonna have all the circus performers trying to get into your tents.”

I snort at that, but then my head whips to the side when I hear his voice. “Damn. Rae get ahold of y’all?”

I should probably agree, but I’m too busy drooling.

Because Dean Moore just walked into the house in a pair of low-slung cargo pants and a white undershirt tank. The wide expanse of his chest is on display, as are his shoulders, which give one hell of a view of his tattoo.
