“Have you seen Cinnamon?” I asked her outright as I felt a bit of panic now.

She pursed her lips. “And why are you askin?”

I sighed as I pushed my fingers through my hair and admitted, “She was in my room then...” I raised my gaze to meet hers. “She slipped out while I was sleeping. I went into her room and there was nothing in there. No clothes, nothing.”

Bea let out a heavy sigh and stated, “She left.”

“Left?” I repeated dumbly.

“Yeah, she… Well, I can’t break confidence, but that poor girl is terrified out of her mind Over...well, she’s afraid of my sister somthin’ fierce…” Bea shook her head.

“Do you know why?”

She nodded. “Olivia Claire will kill her immediately as soon as she is free.”

“What?” I asked in shock. “Why?”

“Like I said, I can’t tell you. I want to. I really do.” Bea reached out and touched my arm. “Are you serious about this girl, Redemption?”

The question hit me hard but the answer slipped out on its own, “Yes, I am.”

“Like just for sex or is it more?”

I glared at her.

“Yeah!” she said. “See? I knew you might get catawampus about it. Maybe she… feels like you won’t accept her as she is?”

I felt confused as all hell. First off, what the hell was a catty whatever she just said? Secondly, not accept her? “Why would I not accept her…I don’t understand.”

“Yeah, you don’t. I can see that. And since I just met ya, I don’t know you well yet. So, I cannot be sure she ain’t right about that.”

I stepped closer to Bea or Ma as they called her. “I care about her a lot. She may have thought she would be safer out there on the run, but I know right here…” I pointed to my chest where my heart was. “That she would be safer with me.”

Bea studied me. “I can see ya do care. And I thought the same thing about her not being safe out there. She went out back. I watched her and saw her with the flashlight. She took the bike I gave her a few days ago and slipped through the fence.”

“Slipped through?” I shook my head. “This place has triple protection. How—”

“I think she might have clipped it herself. I don’t know, but if you hurry, you may catch sight of her, she’s on county road 39, headed to Ramton.”

I nodded at her and felt my heart quickening. “Thank you!”

“Bring her back safe, Mr. Redemption. The girl has been through hell and she deserves better.”

I went into my room, grabbed my boots and shoved them on then got my weapon. Immediately, I headed out to the hall a few doors down to knock on Prophet’s door. If anyone was good in a takedown it was this man.

From behind the closed door, he called out in a growling voice, “What do ya want?”

I opened the door and said, “I need your help, like right away.”

Sitting up, he glanced over at the clock. “Man, it is six am! The fuck you thinking?”

“Cinnamon, you know the girl I—”

“The one you been after?”

I glared at him. “I…yeah that one. She ran away.”

He laughed. “From you? Well, ain’t that a first! Women usually fall at your damn feet and chase you all over fucking Texas—”
