She laughed. “And neither are you.”
I paused and smiled at her. “Gee, thanks.”
She shrugged. “You can be just like him. In fact, you and him are a lot alike I think? Cousins but like out of the same mold?”
I felt a spark of jealousy for some reason. “Oh, yeah?”
Nodding, she explained, “You both just do what is needed and no one can stop you. Just like when you came after me. See one night, he was after Bull. That man worked for O and he was a born killer. He also resembled his name in more ways than one. A big man, round head, arms and legs like a gorilla and mean, cold eyes. He beat women and assaulted them just for fun. Talon had beaten him in a ring fight and Bull hated him like no one else. Talon was trying to find him so they could get him to tell them who O was and stop his stunts that O had ordered. I helped Talon get into a card game where Bull was supposed to be at, in one of the clubs. Then I heard they got him. He wasn’t a pleasant man, so no loss to the world. But it didn’t seem like I thought it was much of a loss either, she had many to replace that monster. She just keeps on playing her evil game.”
I went over and embraced her. “We will get through this crap with O.”
She laid her head onto my shoulder. “I had thought we did when they caught her but it is far from over.”
“Let’s get to the table, they sayMa,” I drawled. “Doesn’t like it when her dinner gets cold.”
With a giggle, she stared up at me then she halted. “Oh…I bet I look awful! Crying like a fool.”
I reached out to smooth my finger along her cheek. “You look beautiful to me.”
“So you say.” She smirked. “I will be out in a minute.” She rushed over to the bathroom, went in, then closed the door.
I stepped over to the mirror above the dresser. My shirt looked ripped at the seams. I scoffed. Dude was serious. I didn’t blame him though. No one should have had to live like Cinnamon had. I vowed to get O. As soon as that trade was made, I would kill her. In cold blood, yes, but someone had to do it. I did not care how we did it, that woman needed to be ended. I walked over to the bathroom door and called to Cinnamon, “Hey, I’m gonna go change my shirt. I will be right back.”
“Ok,” she called through the door.
I headed to my room and went in. I halted as I spotted my dad over by the window. “Dad?”
Turning, he stared at me and said, “Shut the door, son. You and I need to talk.”
Chapter Fifteen:P.S. Lord
Cinnamon
I washed my face and tried to do something with my hair. It didn’t seem like I could wash away or primp away the crying jag look. I let out a sigh. I never would have believed that Redemption wouldn't care about my illustrious past. He looked like he meant it though and he made some wonderful promises too.
I went back into the room. All my clothes were back at Jewel’s place. Pausing, I realized I’d forgotten all about her. She would need a room and clothing too. I bit at my lip, maybe some of the girls could help? I could also ask Ma where she could sleep. We could share my room.
I looked over at the clock on the nightstand. We would be late to dinner and Ma would be out of sorts if we were. I smiled. I loved that woman. If she had been my mother…I paused and shook my head. Why do I do that? I needed to live in the now. At least my future looked brighter. I went out the door and moved a few doors down to stop at Redemption’s door to knock on it, then I halted as I heard loud voices coming from inside.
“You aren’t focusing on Glory!” a male voice yelled. “What they hell were you thinking?”
I realized it was Jarret. I stood still and wondered if I should just go downstairs as this was none of my business.
“And for what?” Jarret said. “Some girl you don’t even know?”
I paused and turned back to listen as it apparentlywasmy business.
“I know her well enough,” Redemption replied.
“Like how well?” his dad asked.
“I really care about her and she was in trouble.”
“Your sister is in trouble! Then you go off doing this?”
‘It did no harm, Dad. We are still set to do the exchange.”
“It’s your focus I’m talking about, Redemption. You can play, the hero sleeps with a new girlat home!”
