“I will get a few men from the Saints that are vets,” Talon announced. “I think several of them did CSAR as a specialty.”

Combat search and rescue. I remember the men in our unit that specialized in this but I sure as hell never expected to hear this term again. Especially for our baby sister. I was on edge now as I felt like I might explode. If she wasn’t there, we may have just lost our sister, permanently. “She said Deacon was handling this,” I reminded him. “What do we know about this guy?”

Talon looked over at Liv.

Liv bit at her lip and said, “Fucker is smart, fully capable in all takedown tactics. FBI trained.” She let out a heavy breath and admitted, “The best agent I ever met.”

“Well, that makes me feelsomuch better,” I said sarcastically. “Like he will be looking for all the traditional signs of infiltration.”

“So, we don’t go traditional,” Talon stated. “Not until we break in there.”

I stared back at him. “I don’t know what the hell that means, but we will have that meeting now, and you’d better be right. If Glory dies, I will be tearing your town apart until we find this Deacon fuck.”

Chapter Seventeen:Hotheaded And Unpredictable

Cinnamon

I had gone into the security room after they had all run down the hallway. I saw it all. O was finally dead. My body trembled as I covered my mouth with my hands. She had stated lines from Shakespeare too or so I guessed. She had done that a lot when I was around her. An odd habit as she would start spouting lines from Hamlet all of the sudden. Only she had said, Jacob. How could she have been so obsessed with a man who never loved her and one she had murdered?

I felt so much all at the same time. Relief that she was gone, fear for Glory. Pride for Rip. The poor man couldn’t help it. None of us could. For him though, it had to have been tearing him apart. I realized this was a bad thing too, just as Redemption had said. It could mean that Glory…I shook my head as I clung to the hope that O had told Rip the truth.

I wondered at this astonishing fact. If O was telling the truth. She never even faced her own truth…Until today. I really believed she had… finally. When Rip told her the way he did, she suddenly saw it. She had been a monster, but it seems there had been enough human in her to finally see what all she had done. No, I didn’t think she cared about the many lives she took or ruined. I knew it was because of the fact she loved her two sons and Rip had made her see what she had done to them in all her evil games.

I never envisioned this. For her to take her own life. Never in all my born days did I guess this impossible outcome. I finally did believe she had some love in her…for her sons at least. Maybe a twisted sense of love, but for her it had been true. Rip had made her see all that she had done through his eyes and that she had hurt him. What about this Deacon though? If she had raised him and he had seen even a fraction of the things I had…Well, he was probably as evil as she was.

I lowered my hands and turned to see Jewel and Prophet standing in the doorway. I could tell by their expressions that they had witnessed her death as well.

Jewel rushed over and hugged me. “You will be safe now.”

I cried on her shoulder. “Maybe?”

She pulled back to look at my face. “She’s dead, Cin. She won’t be hunting you!”

Prophet stepped closer and said, “Deacon might take over for her.”

We looked over at him.

Nodding, I agreed, “And if he finds out she died…Oh, my God.”

Jewel stared at Prophet and asked, “Did they check the Cotton Candy for him?”

“They did.”

We all turned to look at Logan who had answered her.

“He wasn’t there,” Logan explained. “In fact, it has been closed down.”

Jewel looked surprised. “Really?”

Nodding, Logan said, “Some of her other dives have been closed as well. Looks like Deacon is too busy doing something else.”

“Like keeping Glory hidden,” Prophet growled.

We all looked at the screens again. One of them had an odd video on it.

I stepped closer and asked Logan, “What is that?” I pointed at the screen.

“It’s satellite feed. I’m almost tuned in on the area O had mentioned.” He tapped a few keys. “I found the Connor House. It used to be a bed and breakfast.”
