Scarlet
With my body shaking like mad, I parked the car. I was only there for a couple of minutes when a car pulled up next to mine. I stared at the driver and I could feel my entire body going cold.
Wade stared at me and smiled. “Hey baby, long time no see.”
I sat there absolutely stunned.Wade Stephens? He was in Prison…How?
“Belle is in the backseat,” he said.
I gave no thought to all the warnings I’d been given as I opened the car door to step over and see Belle. I then heard Justice yelling ‘no’ and realized what I’d done. Before I could even step back, Wade grabbed me and I was face down on his lap as he yelled, “You bitch!” He shoved me over while the car was already moving.
I didn’t care about anything else as I immediately jumped up and leaned over the seat to look for Belle. She wasn’t there of course. My body trembled as the car swerved and suddenly we were in a tight enclosed area. I didn’t look too long as I dug my knife out and swung it around.
The muzzle of a very large gun nearly touched my nose.
“Drop the knife and sit on your hands, Scar,” Wade ordered.
I did it instantly and shoved my hands under my thighs on the seat.
“That’s better,” he soothed as the car we were in seemed to lower down or something. The gun he held remained pointed at me.
I looked around and figured out that the car we were in was, in fact, lowering. Confusion filled my brain.
“We are now safe from those filthy bikers,” Wade said as he grinned at me. “Why are you with assholes like that anyway?”
I didn’t answer, my brain had stopped working, I think. Of all the people I thought I might see today, this man was never on the list. He had a ten year sentence and I know he wasn’t crafty enough to have broken out of prison. As the victim of his crime, I would have been notified too, if he had escaped. “Where’s Belle?” My voice box finally worked as I asked the only question that mattered right now.
“No worries, she is safe,” he replied as the car set down with a loud thump.
Snapping my gaze up, I stared at the blackness ahead of us. I had no idea where we were.
He started the engine up and drove forward with the headlights on.” Like my Camaro? First thing I bought when I got out.” He chuckled. “Always wanted one.”
I felt lost. Like Alice in Wonderland when she dropped into that rabbit hole. What the fuck was going on?
Suddenly, Wade broke into laughter. “The shocked look on your face! It was too fucking precious, I will say that.”
I slowly shook my head while I stared through the windshield as the car raced along some dark tunnel. “Where is Belle?” I asked the same question again.
“I told you she is safe,” he answered. “So shut the hell up.” He kept driving.
I kept trying to get myself together and think. I needed a way out of this. But until I knew about Belle, what could I do? He had her somewhere. If I even could escape, it would be without her and I couldn't do that.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?” Wade broke the silence.
I refused to play his game, whatever the hell it was. I bit my lip to keep from spitting out foul names and insults at him. Besides, I remembered his temper. A broken jaw, three fractured ribs and a broken wrist had been the result the last time I went up against this monster.
“Now, Scarlet. The silent treatment won’t work here,” he quipped in an amused tone. “Besides, don’t you care about your baby sister in all of this?”
My body tensed even more. Oh, he knew how to needle me. He had always known what to say to set me off. During my time with him, he would push me on purpose until I snapped, then he would beat me down. “I do care, that's why I’m here,” I said in a trembling voice. I knew I should show no fear but I couldn't seem to do that right now.
“Of course, of course,” he said casually. “That is why we took her.”
I finally turned my head to actually look at him now. “We?”
“Yeah, it was the strangest thing.” He chuckled. “One day almost a month ago, I got sprung.”
I sat feeling even more confused. “Sprung?” I repeated.
